I know you can get a statement from 2 years old but can you get 1:1 support provided by the LA then or do you have to wait until the term after they are 3 and go to a LA nursery?

"I know for the last term when he was up to 16.25 hrs a week, he only got funding for 12.5 hrs"

Was that before September because didn't it change to 15 hours then?

Do they get the EYFS grant for 3 year olds (I'm not sure if Montessori nurseries do?)

Also when was he 3?

cerys So the 1:1 you use has nothing to do with the LA? May I ask how much that costs, ABA is expensive isn't it?

am reading this thread with great interest as my ds is 3.3. he attended a private nursery from 2.1 to 3.1. they had ed psych in twice but still weren't given extra funding. he more than likely has asd and adhd.
he now attends a pre school attached to a school and doesn't get 1:1 yet despite mine and school's request for it. also have backing of ed psych, paed, salt and advisory teacher. i said friday if 1:1 isn't sorted by jan i'm complaining officially. the pre school only allow him to attend 10 hours a week instead of 15 and i's making life difficult because i have to work. am a single parent and my elderly parents are having to help me. my dad is unwell, seeing a specialist in london. fri he fell down the stairs.
ds didn't ask to have 2 'disabilities' so why should he be treated less favourably? Sad

nappy no it was from September. Apparently the maximum pot they have for each child is 12.5hrs as that is 5 x 2.5 hrs (which used to be the length of a standard pre-school session). Our nursery does slightly longer sessions hence the discrepancy. I dont know if the problem is caused by their funding staying the same even though the standard hours have increased to 15hrs. He does get the nursery grant - the nursery takes the amount off the bill we pay each term. He was 3 in March so the grant kicked in for the summer term.

tiredmummy you need a statement which specifies he has 1-1 for x hours per week. If all the professionals support you (as it sounds like they do) then you should get that. You can request a statement yourself (I did) and if the school are dragging their feet then I would not wait for them to do it. The problem is that it takes time so it won't help you in the short term.

The 1:1 has nothing to do with the LA except the fact that they pay for her. They have no say in the recruitment process, and the nursery has left that completely up to us too (as long as the person is CRB checked). She charges £15 p/h

louey Do all the children attending get the EYFS grant from the government at the Montessori nursery he attends from the term after they are 3? I didn't realise Montessori nurseries got EYFS funding, would have looked into it for DS had I known.

cerys Where did you get her details from? I need someone in the Midlands. Is she a fully qualified ABA tutor?

nappy yes they do. However, I think not all montessori nurseries accept them. There are some complicated rules about being able to charge 3+ children fees in addition to the nursery grant and our nursery gets around this by having slightly longer sessions than the norm (3.25 hours instead of 3 hrs). I know there was a lot of to-ing and fro-ing between the council and the nursery about this when the hours changed in September as the nursery were threatening to pull out of the nursery vouchers system if they couldn't continue to charge to cover their costs. Fortunately in the end, there was a compromise and the nursery still accepts them.
