Dont know what to do about DS

me and DH are at our wits end regarding DS.

I have psted on here before about the problems ds has in school and it doesnt seem to be getting any better.

This morning DS was with the child psychologists again re his anxiety, thing is he refuses to work with them and learn relaxation techniques which we shouldnt be surprised at cos he doesnt like too much involvement with anyone.

Last week he told me if he had a knife he,d kill himself- we put this down to bullying which we thought had been sent out, the child psychs said that he is depressed and to not do anything to further his anxiety and to keep up with his food regimes and his timing which is really important to him.
Told them we are going to get him a visual timetable and they said that was a good idea.

Got the impression that they thought as school cant cope with sorting out ds and its causing him so much distress that we should take him out until he has finished his assesment.

Problem is we took him out this year for 6 weeks and it didnt really work, i just wondered if any of you have been in this situation and what you did if your child was kept at home with you.

Can anyone give me some advice because im feeling really low and sad at the moment
thanks

do you feel there are any other schools that would cater for him better?

sound horrendous, you poor thing

I think taking him out of school is bad advice from the child psychologists if that didn't help before. Puts a huge amount of pressure on you to cope with a depressed child 24/7 too. Fio's idea sounds good to me. Is a new school, fresh start possible? How old is your boy, btw?

unfortunately there are no places at the other schools because they are shutting 3 down and building a large one.

DS is 8 almost 9.

I am not worried about taking him out of school because when we did it earlier on in the year we didnt know he was autistic and now i feel that i could manage him better than i did before its just i wouldnt know what to teach him or how to keep him occupied.

nearly lost him tonight, me and ds were returning from my brothers home(-he loves going there as my brother is so patient with him and lets him play on the computer and doesnt get stressed when he screams and shouts!)and as usual when we get near the road he decides to do a runner quick as a flash before i could grab hold of him he legs it on to the road.

I only managed to shout his name before he fell in the middle of the road which is a busy one, i heard the screech and a car stopped just right in time, he was lay in front of the car, i thought oh no thats it but DS got up turned and looked at me with his fist shaking screaming "its all your fault you should have told me theres a car on the road"

How do you answer that!
Anyway me and Dh have now decided that we have to take him everywhere by car now and that walking around with him is out of the question

Oh how frightening. So sorry to hear that Jenk. Are you ok?

No advice about his school situation, but wanted you to know that I'm thinking of you. {{{hugs}}}

thanks lilypond,
yes im ok im more in shock than anything because its made me realise how much ds seems to have changed.
I dontknow if its because since we have been told heis autistic we are looking at him in a different way or if he is changeing.

Got some good news yesterday-the child development centre rang and said they would be treating DS as an urgent case because he is depressed and having problems at school etc so we should hopefully get him on a programm there, i mena we had the diagnosis verbally back in april but nothing since soits about time!
