Night time pooing and sleeping- any advice!?

Got lots of issues about nights, as dd2, who's nearly 5,no where near toilet training, still in large cot but getting too big now so will have to move into a bed soon.

She kicks off duvet all the time and so we have reverted to sleeping grobags for her but of course they are also bit small, and if she moves into a bed she'll be able to get out of bed and will fall if still in sleeping bag.

Anyway, on the recent nights when we have used a duvet dd has woken having had a poo in her sleep.. Not unusual. We've been used to being greeted with that most mornings for couple of years. But she has started to explore the contents of her nappy and has begun smearing ( all over her face the other night! Not nice!)

Can't get my head round how to stop this happening? Or is it just a phase, and maybe it will pass soon. She has not done this before but really don't want to delay putting her in a bed for this reason.

Have seen the 'stick on' duvets you can get that we hope will stop her getting cold.. Any experience of these? Do they work?

We don't want anything else to contribute to our already very sleepless nights! Any advice very welcome!

Not sure if this would work but my friend cut along the bottom of her dd's sleeping bag so her feet could still stick out (it was a zip from the top one)

We did not have these issues exactly but did find a child size sleeping bag a good way to transition to a child bed from cot and grobag - ds loves the feeling of being tightly snuggled in

We had this problem with DS2. Solved it by putting his sleep suit (either sleeping bag or zip up sleeper) on backwards, so he couldn't get it open. Worked like a dream. We had in reserve the plan to put it inside out and backwards if he managed to open it up. LOL

The faeces thing may well be an exploration phase - can you get all-in-one suits so she can't get access?

DJAngel · 15/11/2010 13:47

Thanks all for replies. Willow can you remember where you got the larger size sleeping bags?

Good idea to put suit on backwards Triggles! She managed to get her hand down the front so that should help.

Have found PJ all in one suits melted but then if we change nappy in night as we do frequently will need to take it all off to get access - not a disaster but we don't have a very warm house so may wake herself up more if she gets cold during nappy change.. Really hope it's a phase..

She likes her sleeping bag too willow and when she's tired has started to say a version of 'Sleeping bag? ' so think she likes it and certainly associates it with sleep.

Also 1980Sport will probably have to cut the bottom off if we can't resolve it soon and get some warm bedsocks! I'm worried I'll stop her feet from growing!

They are just ordinary child's sleeping bags - there are no fastenings as in grobags. You can get child sleeping bags in argos - with characters like peppa pig/thomas tank etc
