Decided to go totally gluten free

After 3 and a half years of constipation and now 3-4 weeks of the complete opposite I got on the web abd have decided to give gluten free a go. I already do it a bit but am going to do it properly now and see how it goes.
I've recently made ten ton on chicken nuggets using wholemeal bread as the coating so may use at least some of those up first. Meanwhile I'll start changing things round and clearing the house of products containing gluten.
I know about the obvious things to avoid, bread, pasta etc and know I can buy gluten free pasta and bread etc. But any hidden things I might not think of straight away and any yips etc?
TIA.

Is it better for the whole family to go gluten free or just have special gluten free things in for Lottie?

Thanks. I'm not sure I have to avoid 'contamination', do I?????? Sounds a bit... dramatic, for us, not for you, but maybe for us, or do I have to take it that seriously and think about that? Blimey!

If you want the name of the person I mentioned on your thread on health email me. She has written books about it and I can give you their names via emails (related to autism- not DS- her DS comments were off record which was why I didn't give her name on the original thread).

Ohhh, haven't seen that jimjams.
Oh right, that's interesting. Yes I'd like more info on that and I'll CAT you tomorrow, not sure I have your eamil address anymore. Thanks.

places like lakeland sell toaster bags which you could use to toast your gluten free bread to avoid the separate toaster issue. You may find your supermarket shop takes twice as long, as you check all ingredients!

Or use the grill and put the gluten free stuff on a piece of clean foil!

Thomcat, 'contamination' is what makes eating out such a minefield. Even if you buy something simple like chips you don't know if the fryer has been used for battered cod or something or if they are using the same utensils for both. I used to live in a pub and had to share the kitchen that served food to the public for 10hrs a day. I once prepared some nice roast potatoes for ds (he couldn't have the Aunt Bessie ones)and when I went to get them out of the oven my mum had sold them by mistake!

I would join the coeliac society in High Wycombe. They will ask you if you have been diagnosed and say that you have by blood test otherwise they won't let you join. They send out mail shots from manufacturers and a hand book listing all foods which are safe whether they are sweets, choc to ready made meals and cooked meats. Really worth having.
I have coeliac disease by the way and keeping to a gluten free diet is easy peasy.

Not sure why I thought that was relevant actually! I think it's time I went to bed.
