Help! ADOS result apprehension

Recent test, results due in next appt (approx 2m). Am struggling to find a way of not thinking about it, as I can't fret about the outcome for that length of time!

Having come from complete denial through 'dc is on the AS borderline' to convinced dc has definite asd albeit being v verbal and high functioning, I'm now worried silly. Dc has clearly benefitted from home therapies and some help at school. But from what I saw in the room, he'll probably now have to muddle through without diagnosis and the assistance it brings.

How have others coped with the waiting? And did your impressions of how the ados went correspond in any way to the scores? Aaargh. Back to b**y uncertainty.

Crikey that is quite a while to wait. We were given results 30 mins after the ADOS was done (though ADOS was the final stage in the dx process for DS1).

The ADOS picked up my DS1's subtle but significant difficulties. I was a bit shocked tbh as I was in the room (DS1 was 3) and he was laughing and interacting from what I could see. His was done by a SALT and OT - I had previously met the SALT and met the OT a few times after and they are v good at what they do. So I think a large part depends on the skill of the team doing the ADOS IYKWIM?

We were given results on same day as test - unfortunately not what we expected. Ds very charming, great vocabulary and loves talking and socialising with adults - it's the children he can't relate to or mix with. He has a large number of AS traits, obsessions, rituals etc. but all we ended up with was a dx of 'behavioural difficulties' ffs. Paed has refused to do any further assessments, says he definitely has no ASD and does not have difficulties in the triad of impairments. Now considering seeing private paed. 2 EP's have suspected AS/HFA but paed took no notice of this. Hope you get a better result than us.

We got the initial diagnosis (HFA) on the day of the test. Should get the scores in the next few weeks- ADOS was done this Monday.
DS2 has major difficulties, triad of imparement, no eye contact, huge vocabulary combined with poor understanding of speech, doubly incontinent, cannot feed or dress himself, obsession with trucks to the exclusion of everything else.....and the list goes on.
The diagnosis was no surprise to us, Paed had said she suspected it at our initial assessment in July.
I think Paed has under-diagnosed, to be honest. DS can perform v well with 1-to-1 adult contact in a quiet room, but completely falls apart in the real world. She wants him to start mainstream school next year (he's 3.8) but Nursery & other professionals say he will not be able to cope.
I hope you get the diagnosis you're after

Thanks guys, I was thinking it seemed a long wait. I think we may have got a cancellation slot for the ados itself, hence the time till next available folllow-up appt.

The paediatrician is generally very supportive wrt writing things for school etc, so am keeping my fingers crossed that even if diagnostic criteria aren't quite met, he will spell out dc's difficulties in such a way they can't be ignored. I did pick up hints he will increase dc's ADHD meds if need be!
