Who is in a multidisciplinary constipation team?

I had the report on my DSs last gastroenterologist's meeting and the last sentence reads:
'If he is not responding I might consider referring him for the multidisciplinary constipation team in view of his behaviour.'
Anyone know who makes up this team? CAMHS didn't want to see him, gastroenterologists obviously seem to think that they have gone as far as they can. Who is left?

Sounds like the multidisciplinary team need to loosen up a bit Grin

Oh, that is my first laugh of the day fighting...!

Auntevil, I haven't a clue who would be in the team but it sounds good that they take it seriously enough to have one!

Sorry - a few posters have had a crap day so this thread made me laugh.

Not heard of that one before but I suppose it works the same as other multidisciplinary teams - a professional from different depts. So CAMHS could well be part of that team, even if they have previously declined to see him.

well DS is being referred for constipation, so maybe I'll be able to tell you when he's worked his way through the system Grin

(ps it's true about the referral, but it's still making me laugh the thought of a constipation MDT!)

fightingthezombies · 10/11/2010 21:18

And we've had a thread about leaks too! tee hee

Our team of professionals could almost be cAlled that (apart from a couple)

TBH with 3 DS with diarrhoea problems, you have to laugh at things with toilet humour. it does make you wonder if there's a multidisciplinary diarrhoea team as well. Their office would have to be the one closest to the toilets though! Grin

Well years ago i was in a 'peripatetic' team which everyone referred ot (with some justification) as the 'bloody pathetic' team.

DLIguy · 10/11/2010 22:04

Most of the multi disciplinary teams are full of crap.

Ineed2 · 10/11/2010 22:32

donkeyderby · 10/11/2010 22:56

Would Dyno-Rod have a place on the team?

magso · 11/11/2010 12:17

Oh er!! Ds was referred to the paediatric community nursing team some years back for similar problems - could it be a typo?!

meltedmarsbars · 11/11/2010 13:44

You need this mug for your coffee at the meeting.

My dd had a meeting with a Consultant colo-rectal surgeon, Consultant Paed Gastroenterologist and two specialist nurses - wasn't called a MDT but sounds similar ie. was what gastro consult suggested when he ran out of ideas. Was helpful to get the 2 consultant's heads together. In our case they decided that dd didn't have constipation underlying her problems but most likely a neuropathy.

auntevil · 11/11/2010 20:25

Did it solve anything EColi, or was it more a case of explaining that they couldn't resolve it?

It has given us more peace of mind to be honest - when we were told that her problems were caused by an underlying constipation we were forever trying to work out how much movicol she should be on and trying to work out if it was too much meds or too little meds etc. If it is, as they now think, a neuro problem then it will either get better with time or it won't. She's off meds and we're just accepting that she is what she is. Having said that they want an MRI to check for any obvious malformations but they aren't expecting to find any as her x-rays have been normal. She previously had x-ray, blood tests for inflammation (crohns type disorders) and a motility study.
