WEll that was crap, worst one ever.
Pead decided she needed to speak to proffessionals invovled before us as she knew there was difference of opinions. Left us waiting 45 mins, and came in with decsion made that they werent going to make dx as terrible preschool havent seen any of her behaviours at all and therefore she is functioning well and they need more time to see what the rest of us see and more imput!!

I asked how this is helpfult o DD2 and she replied that she would rather make the right dx in 6 months than a wrong one now.

She then went out and spent another 20 mins with proffessionals, brought them all in and discussed decision.

She sent all of 15 mins with us and DD2 and an hour and 15 with others!! Oh and she cancelled ADOS test until feb

Specialist SALT is going today Preschool to do check list of things they should be looking for, and they even had cheek to ask if she still needed her 5 hours one to one.

Oh and im meant to go on a parenting course LOL thats a laugh, I run them as a living!

Im very upset as after all of this, they also told me that they dont advise DD2 starts nursery in April and if i did that they wouldnt reassess her for a year! blackmail. I now have to keep her at this crap preschool, who did not even talk to me today

I have no idea as all this was discussed without me and DH there!! I got the SN school report on monday and they noted alot of what we note and also Pead did say she presents with the same challeges at SN school as she does at home!
Im in Herts, please if your close by would be great. I know Specialist SALT is going to visit and observe too, think she feels liek we do. I just wish I knew what was said in meeting Angry maybe report will shed light.

That's a shame. I'm in Worcs so a bit too far away I'm afraid.

I'm quite Angry at the attitude of this pre-school. You could really do with a few people from outside coming in to observe. You don't know anyone else who could use studying child development as an excuse to go in and observe her objectively do you? Could you ask the SN nursery to go and see her in that setting? There is a requirement under the EYFS for settings to share info about children's development so it may not be stretching it too much to ask for visit. Again you could leave it a few weeks to it doesn't look like a knee jerk reaction.

It's awful when people are making decisions in a professional capacity with all their underlying agenda and it is so personal and crucially important to us.

Just to add my sympathies. It might be interesting to get the report through from this meeting. As they spent so little time with you, it might contain more of the information of what was discussed without you. You might get to see who is the real problem in all of this, specially as the SALT seemed to want to be co-operative.
There are good pre-schools out there. i'm not in Herts, but ours work really hard with IEPs. Might be teaching you to suck eggs, but if you're working do you get the tax deducted childcare vouchers. All OFSTED registered care should take them and it makes for paid pre-school places slightly more affordable.

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 10/11/2010 14:28

Just had a phone call from the specialist SALT who phone because she didnt get to say bye Grin
She told me it got quite heated in the meeting upstairs and the preschool were very stoney faced and refused to see a problem. They are now going to reeducated via her visits. The SENCO asked if DD2 was displaying the jargon she was talking about after we left! (she was)
She also admitted that she thinks DD2 is Autistic but we are doing everything right. She is a sweet lady, and told me she is going to whip the preschool into shape and point out every little ASD thing DD2 does (she saw loads on her short 1hour visit)

Yes, that's why we were hell bent on getting a dx AND statement before school.

I'd do it now. You argue the case that you are dd2's primary education provider and you cannot meet her educational needs with your in-house resources.

goingroundthebend4 · 10/11/2010 15:20

sorry to hear it did wonder when saw this morning .Thing is will pre school be any differnt in May when they reasses

anotherbrickinthewall · 10/11/2010 16:35

I'm sorry Lisa, I am absolutely gobsmacked that they are paying so much attention to pre-school.

cansu · 10/11/2010 16:46

Really sorry it was so poor lisa. Is there any chance you can get more independent observations of her in the pre school? Whilst it cost a fortune, having an independent assessment of dd2 helped us with persuading the 'professionals' that their assessments were crap. I would also be very angry with pre school. Unfortunately some settings side step the issues by letting the child do their own thing. This happened to my dd2 at nursery, although to be fair they did support me when I sought help for her.

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 10/11/2010 17:09

they do very much let her do as she wishes, where as her SN school changelle her behaviors.
Hmmm hadnt thought about independant person. Who would I ask?

Yeah. I got a spare tenna.

Al1son · 10/11/2010 19:38

Thinking outside the box a bit then. Are there any NAS support groups in your area? If so you could contact them and ask if there is anyone qualified in Early Years, especially anyone who is studying for a qualification now. You could then give permission for this person to go in and practice their observation skills. Any students in the SN nursery might be an option too.

MaudOHara · 10/11/2010 20:09

Yes. I saw it as an investment. i.e. if it buys us 6 months of early intervention then it would be worth it.

However, I do know Lisa that you're under quite a bit of pressure from a variety of directions and you can't buy yourself out of everything. It sounds like your dd2 is going to get 'some' decent provision for the next 6 months and you are an excellent parent with experience.

A private dx with Daphne Keen set us back £700 and we needed it to ensure we got a statement before ds started preschool to head off what Lisa is going through. I didn't know what I was doing but I had strong instincts.

thanks for the suggestions, shame really as Im a qualified early years prac, I cant go and do it myself. Will give NAS a call but i know her SN school are going in too, and also one of the mums at the school who goes in reports back to me too.
Yes your right, an awful lot going on here and its finding energy for it all. :(

DH has BUPA with his work, so might give them a call and see if they can help Grin

£700 is a lot of money but if I had it I would gladly pay for it, but i cant so guess im stuck for another 6 months. Always fun, "so your child goes to an Autistic school but isnt Autistic??" !! aggrr

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 10/11/2010 21:51

Also I really want to know what was discussed upstairs without us there, Im wondering weather to ask now or wait for report? I could ask SALT but think she'll try and remain proffessional.

OP posts:
auntevil · 10/11/2010 21:52

Just to warn you re BUPA. I had a hell of a time with them re words like neurological and developmental. A lot of work policies cover illness and physical conditions that were not pre-existing to the policy, but run like the wind with their cheque books when there is the likelihood of on going treatment. I wish you the best in trying, but read the policy cover to cover before contacting them because as soon as they hear a word they don't like, the £ dries up.

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 10/11/2010 21:56

thanks auntevil, I dont think they will cover it but if they say yes will make sur ei do read it. Was caught out before with DD2 eye appointments.

OP posts:
auntevil · 10/11/2010 22:00

It might be interesting to look at what one off tests that the policy covers. You know how they often cover a diagnostic test, but not treatment etc. i know that they covered a dietician for 3 appt.s but no more. You have to play them at their own game. Sounds like every department we have to deal with, eh?!

lisad123isgoingcrazy · 16/11/2010 09:19

just dropped DD2 off at crappy preschool, i hate it I feel sick :(
SN preschool told me yesterday that all specialist agreed she has ASD but horrible preschool were adiment she wasnt and threw in the "this is meant to be an multi agencty assessment!"
