IEP after statement?

Statement being finalised and I am really not happy with the last IEP for ds. Did go to see HT but no changes have been made. Am I correct in thinking that a new IEP should be issued after a statement has been made??

Hello fighting, I am sort of back, at least posting a bit again!
This may help with your query:

SEN COP
8:39
c the third sub-section should describe the arrangements to be made for setting
shorter-term educational and developmental targets for the child. The targets
themselves should not be part of the statement but should form an integral part of their IEP. By their nature such targets will require regular review and revision while the longer-term objectives in sub-section 1 will not. The child?s school should devise the first IEP, in consultation with their parents and, where appropriate the child, within two months of placement at a different school, or immediately the statement is finalised if the child remains in the same school. The child?s achievements, in the light of the IEP,
should be reviewed at least twice a year by the school, and fully considered at the first
annual review of the statement when further targets can be set.

Ampers I think CoP 8.39 had become your signiture. In fact, I think you should name change to it Wink Grin

Thanks Ampers, good to see you back. Hope things are a bit better for you and ds now.
The s/m will name secondary school but current school will still have to take it on board presumably?

Stark - yes I noticed that I was quoted elsewhere on that today! Namechange might be in order before I post much else anyway. Ironic too - still waiting for our statement to be finalised so nowhere near an IEP.

Mind you the only aim on Ds's would be 'to go to school'... not been for weeks now.

Fighting - good to be back too, was lurking just had given up speaking as did not know what to say any more! Congrats on the statement. Not sure how it will work with IEP but surely they must do one now regardless.

Have you found a secondary school, will they name the one you want?

fightingthezombies · 04/11/2010 22:04

Yes,have found a fantastic secondary that will really suit ds and his interests. Other side of town but we were never going to the local school because of bullying/teasing and one child threatening to stab ds when he got there! Met the Senco and she seems lovely and very caring. She says she would love to have him at the school and he can't wait to get there. It's really good to see him enthusiastic about school for a change. Can't see any problem with this being named on sm. Just have to get through the next few months hence wanting a good IEP.

That's good news, really pleased - and so good that DS is happy about it as well Smile

fightingthezombies · 04/11/2010 22:13

Good luck with your statement - when will you hear?

Thanks fighting. Now happy with wording but we have named a non-maintained (but not private, everyone there LEA funded) special school. However this has to go before a particular panel that deals with such requests (yep, another panel ...).

Have to say SEN officer has been fab and agreed to do this rather just name MS, so holding tiny tiny flame of hope. But am on tenterhooks as it could be any day (no one will say), and if they say no which I assume is likely, we will be heading for tribunal and that will be months.

fightingthezombies · 04/11/2010 22:27

Well fingers crossed, hope you get what you want. Pm me if you name-change so I know who to look out for.
