DD has been off colour and not herself this week. Just took her to GP who confirms she has another ear infection, at least the 3rd in 2 months. She has always been congested/drooling/ snoring and gets very tired. Interestingly her speech is worse during them and what i maybe thought were absences might have been down to having ear pain.

So she has now been referred to ENT to investigate her adenoids/ears, and might need grommets/surgery.

She has severe allergies and eczema and has appts for those as well as her neuro and genetic ones.

The ear infections have been affecting her at nursery as she is so tired and in pain. So I am hopeful that if something can be done to help them her behaviour/concentration/sleep will improve too.

My mum is now saying that this is the cause of all her issues Hmm and hoping for a miracle cure but really I think it's just another thing we have to deal with.

Aaargh

That's better. Smile

ah yes - I remember well the "oooh I bet he's just ?wtf?)got a hearing problem, that's all it is" line of thought.....

well at the very least she'll be more comfortable and happier if her ears are sorted, but blimey, there's not uch let up on the medical front is there.

Oh mothers, eh? They do like to have their theories, don't they?

Hope your young lady feels a bit better soon. Ear infections are properly miserable.

I've heard dairy free diet is good to stop the mucous (sp? looks odd to me...) but then, who knows about the diet stuff....

FeedjoToTheMummies · 29/10/2010 19:37

Yes. unfortunately she is a total milkaholic, also a fussy eater and has a restricted diet due to allergies too, would be hard cutting down the milk, but i should try!

Well yes. Our DS is a 'biege food only' kinda guy - supplemented with yoghurt - haven't even entertained the GF/CF diet!!! Shock I s'pose there's crisps....

I have a friend who eschewed (oooh I do like to use that word now and again) dairy on account of her copious snot... I'm not sure it has helped, but hey, keeps her busy..

oat milk meant to be very good- nicer than soy and less other alergens from what i've heard...

Willmum · 29/10/2010 22:59

Hi just wanted to say I've been there too, very similar situation. My mum and pil were convinced grommets would magically sort out all the issues, They didn't but they did make his hearing better which can obviously only help.
My son is wheat, nut and egg free and was allergic to dairy as a baby but I have been told he's outgrown this, although I have always suspected its not doing him any favours. I've now decided to take out dairy as well and try him on soy. Its not easy and I'm not sure yet whether its making a differnce but I'll let you know in a few weeks. It wasn't an easy descision to make with his other allergies but we'll see! Good luck

I feel for you, really I do. MIL's first reaction was to ask if it was possibly a hearing problem. And then she moved on to "he can't have SNs because he knows his numbers and letters and such." Hmm She isn't trying to be dreadful or anything, I think she is just worried and desperately clutching at straws as she is coming to terms with this.

I do hope they can get her ears sorted out with the least amount of trauma and aggravation for your DD.

FeedjoToTheMummies · 30/10/2010 06:38

thanks. It's just a worry,as this is the time she needs to be getting most benefit from nursery etc, while she is little. All feeling a bit much to deal with again, have own health issues too, but that would need a whole other thread!
