Oh no.. it's a "super-wired" day today

DS2 is having one of those days where he:

  • snacks and nibbles (albeit fairly healthy things) all day, which means his meals will be thrown off
  • asks for everything 50 times not pausing for breath between, just over and over (even after I've answered because he is so busy asking he doesn't hear what I've said)
  • is talking very very quickly and it's near impossible to slow him down
  • is touching EVERYTHING he's not supposed to and wants to be hugged or sit practically on top of me all the time
  • changes what he wants to do for entertainment every ten (or two) minutes (book? ok.. no wait, colouring.. no wait, television... no wait, megablocks...no wait, cars.... and so on)

We get all these behaviours anyway but usually not all at once for extended periods of time. He's been this way since he woke up this morning at his usual ungodly hour of 5am.

And he has asked me at least 10 times each when we are going to :

  • put on his school uniform
  • go to school today
  • go see his teachers

A couple meltdowns as well. I'm supposed to going over to MIL's house with DS2 and DS3 today for a visit, as DIL & DGS are there today as well. Just dreading it, as I will spend the whole time reining him in. MIL is wonderful but puzzled about the whole thing (she's still trying to work out how he can have ASD and dyspraxia and still be clever and know his numbers and letters and spelling - bless her, I think she figures that cancels out any SNs or something - we're still easing her into the information) .. but it's just soooooooo exhausting. No chance of sitting down for a coffee or chat. And because DH mentioned I was taking them to their nan's house today, DS2 has been asking when we're going for that as well. Saying we're not going will prompt another meltdown. sigh.... thank god we have chocolate in the house and a bottle of wine - think I will need both tonight.

Making a mental note to tell DH NOT to mention the day's plans to DS2 until I know for certain that we're doing them still.

Sympathies..my DD is ALWAYS like this 24/7, it's wearing.

GraveyardMistsAreMellow · 29/10/2010 12:50

Is it windy where you are? I remain convinced from my teaching days that it always whips children up.

The holidays don't help at all do they? DS was in a lovely predictable routine before half-term but now there's no pre-school, DD is at home winding him up going in and out of the house at random times with friends and to top it all off DH has been working from home [hhmm] Can't wait for Monday.

bullet234 · 29/10/2010 13:04

Oh yes, Ds1 is like that too here today. Ds2 and I were having a lovely time this morning watching "The Dying Detective" whilst Ds1 was leaping on to my shoulders and swinging off my neck.

woolytree · 29/10/2010 13:23

Similar situation here. DD woke up just before 5am after dreaming about Monsters Inc, would not go back to sleep. :( Has been eating non stop all week, luckily got a mini trampoline for her birthday so Im avoiding being bounced on. Wants to watch movies over and over while insisting I find toys we got rid of long ago and play this, no that, no eat, no get this.....you do it mumm, you do it. Phew.

...She watching....Monsters Inc again! Hmm

Sympathies to all...especially if your DCs arent back to school until tuesday like mine. :)

Its my DS's 10th birthday today. He had his first meltdown of the day by 8.30 and is brewing another one.Meanwhile iv'e got a birthday tea party to prepare and relatives arriving soon.
Is it bedtime yet?

Spinkle · 29/10/2010 16:01

Am agreeing with the windy day theory.

Friday pm playtime on a windy day is like 'fight night' on the playground Shock

We've had an 'interesting' day here too....

Triggles · 29/10/2010 16:09

oh lizzy - my sympathies to you!! I at least don't have to coordinate a birthday party today!!!

DH was lovely and got up (he works nights) at noon and went with me to MILs to help keep track of the children. Grin He's a bit tired, but completely reduced my stress about going to MIL's.

I do think it's the change in schedule regarding school break right now. He's much more "all over the place" on the weekends now as he is all settled on school schedule during the week and then is off schedule on the weekends. But I suppose part and parcel of him going to school.

Feedjo - so sorry - honestly I think I'm spoiled a bit as he's in school for hours each day and then having him home all week is just exhausting. Blush

Graveyard - yes, actually it is rather windy here today. I hadn't thought of that, but now I'll have to watch to see if it actually is a factor. Hmmmm.....

bullet - lol at the swinging from your neck - the climbing is such a distraction and just means I literally can't get anything done! And him sitting down and shutting down in Asda as he was overwhelmed by all the people did NOT help my day. First I can't get him to sit down, then I can't get him to get up. Confused

wooly - oh my - that conversation of "no eat, get that, no this..." sounds DREADFULLY familiar... oh wait... that's exactly the conversations I've been having with DS2 today Grin. I can't get DS2 to watch Monsters Inc. The only "long" movie he will watch is Toy Story 1 and Toy Story 2. That's it. Which makes for a lot of repetition. At least when Toy Story 3 comes out it'll be a bit different. Grin

Well, the benefit of having an outing to MIL's house and a very crowded Asda?? DS2 is now rather worn out and sitting quietly watching Mr Maker. Whew! Peace for a few minutes! He nodded off in the car on the way home, but true to form, he springboarded out of the car and was wide awake. Knew I wasn't going to actually get him to take a nap... but one can hope, eh? Wink

Spinkle - I hadn't heard of that windy day theory before - but I suppose it makes sense to some extent.

I'm familiar with the windy day thing, too and sympathise.

It's not having its effect on DS1 today as he's a bit under the weather and has spent most of the day quietly composing his own error message pages on his computer :o The level of calm in our house is quite rare - it's DS2 driving me nuts insisting I "read" him the same book over and over and then tearing stuff up!

Triggles · 29/10/2010 17:15

DH has gone back to sleep now for a bit. DS3 sleeping late as he went down for his nap late. DS2 all over the place again. Bedtime at 6pm, but I can foresee DS3 waking up just in time to throw bedtime completely off. Just keeping my eye on that bottle of wine for later tonight. Grin
