What to wear - v proud mummy moment

DS (ASD) in 3rd year of Uni has been awarded a Prize by his University, and is to be presented with it at the Graduation Ceremony (he doesn't graduate himself until next year).

Question is - what does he wear? He has BIG sensory issues. He refuses to wear ties and will only wear trainers.

I thought of plain black trousers, open neck white cotton shirt and V neck pullie (gret/blue/black?)

Or should I pull out the stops and try to get him into a suit - very much doubt that will be possible Sad

Greatful for any suggestions Smile

Wow - that's good news. Would he wear a waistcoat? Ds can be tricky but looks smart in trousers, waistcoat and shirt.

Nice on FTZ - hadn't thought of that.

Knew you ladies would understand Grin

You can get fairly smart looking black trainers too. As long as they're very dark brown or black I don't suppose anyone will register what's on his feet anyway.

StarkAndWitchesWillFindYou · 28/10/2010 15:22

Oh no. This is HIS day so he should be allowed to wear whatever he feels comfortable in. Black trainers are a good idea though

YOU on the otherhand can justify a whole new outfit for the ocassion.

So pleased for you both.

Hmmm - not sure about him going on stage in front of hundreds wearing old Addidas trackie bottoms and 3 wolves barking at the moon T shirt - his normal attire!.

Advice to you all - avoid M&S menswear department for the next couple of weekends Grin

wetAugust huge congratulations to him, and well done to the Mother who supported him enough that he could do it Smile

May I ask what the prize is for?

WRT clothing, anything smart enough to pass muster, I should think.

StarkAndWitchesWillFindYou · 28/10/2010 15:47

Sure, but a reward for winning a prize shouldn't be pain, unless the reward for winning a prize is a bit of pain and then something fantastic!?

Can you bribe him?

WetAugust · 28/10/2010 15:59

It's for 'an oustanding student who has shown the most progress'.

The prize money will get him a computer game so no bribery needed there.

Thanks for all your nice words. Blush

I'm sure you will manage to get ds into something comfy but smart/casual and yourself into something fab and glam!

Well done to your ds, that is a brilliant achievement, you must be very proud!

ThePumpkinofDoomandTotalChaos · 28/10/2010 17:48

well done to your DS. I wouldn't bother with a suit, as sounds like it's likely to stress him out, just compromise as best you can.

SE13Mummy · 28/10/2010 18:27

Well done to both of you. He may be rather too old for this but I thought I'd post it anyway... I read an article about this company a while back and thought it looked brilliant.

TheArsenicCupCake · 28/10/2010 19:37

Can I share a little proud foryour ds moment.
Bloody well done him :)

if he can tollerate buttons how about a really soft shirt, no tie and some black slouch trousers with black trainers? A waist coat with that would look nice too ;)

woolytree · 28/10/2010 20:36

:) Well done.

A t-shirt with a collar, black trousers...a tank top? Hmm black trainers.

genieinabottle · 28/10/2010 22:01
