My DS had a SALT assessment today to assess his actual understanding and it came out that his understanding isnt really too bad.

But then the assessment was done in a quiet room, with visual prompts and obviously at home and school there at a lot of distractions!!

Just so confused now as he doesnt really always respond to instructions etc!!!

How old is he?

StarkAndWitchesWillFindYou · 25/10/2010 15:14

There are lots of ways of testing understanding, and lots of different 'understandings' to test. It doesn't mean he doesn't have problems (nor does it mean he does).

What test was done?

Anna85 · 25/10/2010 15:28

They done 3 lots.

Asking him differnt things like point to the dog in the box etc!

1 of them they said he scored slightly under for his age. He is 5 in December!

But then at school and home he doesnt really seem to understand certain commands etc!!! Was confused before but even more now. He has a dx of ASD!

I know you will think this is a funny question. Does he like climbing trees and walls. Apparently it is a sign of Aspergers Syndrome.

Well I suppose he does...he has been diagnosed with ASD but SALT wanted to assess his understanding! x

LOL Lucinda you are funny!

Anyway Anna a child with ASD can have good understanding of language. It is the how they use that language in terms of functioning.

For example a child can still have limited reciprocal conversation despite understanding the language used.

Ahh I kind of understand lol!!

ASD people take the language very literally.
