Hi Everyone,

This is my first post. I am starting my ADHD son on a GF/CF diet and was wondering if anyone has any advice on what types of food he can eat.

At the moment he eats meat, fish, veg etc and also gf food from Sainsburys but would like some helpful tips on a few convenient foods and snacks to give him more variety.

Any advice would be appreciated.

my two boys with ASD on gf/cf for just over a year. I cook fairly plain food for them - rice, gf pasta, potatoes, meat, fish, veg the usual. The gf ranges in the supermarkets are quite good but expensive. The bread is fairly yukky i think but my boys were never great sandwich eaters anyway. You can also buy gf cereals or look for rice krispies with no wheat/barley gluten. We give them a little goat's milk and cheese as they love it and I have read the casein in goat's milk is lower than cow's milk. My two love the chocolate rice cakes out of ASDA for a treat. Eating out is a pain but if you opt for 100% beef burgers in mcdonalds type places that is usually the only option open to them. Eating out in fairly decent restaurants is ok if they do a plain chicken breast, chips, beans mash etc. You just need to check re the gluten. I believe it has made a difference to my two and once you get into the hang of it its really not much of a hassle.

Thanks - Have you tried m&s gluten free bread. I think its ok for this diet. Its the best tasting bread that I've found.

yeah, got it last week - just the brown rolls available when I discovered it in my local m and s. Have them in the freezer and will try it with them. Tried them with the brownies also but they didn't like them - not so bothered about that!!

Products I've found useful are: Waitrose chocolate stars (cereal), orgran foods (they do good biscuits and I once found a spaghetti hoops by them but can no longer find it) and dried fruit (kidilicious brand) for snacks.
Hth!

Thanks. I've done a search on old messages and found:

Heinz Carrot and Lentil soup
Baxters Chicken broth
Big Soup - Steak & Potato
Chocolate snack a jacks

It all helps just trying to make a bigger list of safe foods for DS instead of eating the same things over again as he's a good eater and will try anything.

Just checked the chocolate snack a jacks and they do contain milk so assume not safe for DS. Bought couple of packs in shopping without checking so I'll have to eat them!

Anyone had behaviour improvement following GF/CF diet?
