Bit of background ds saw ortics 2 years ago started with innersoles no good cut his feet then pedro boots but after while they decided to go with afos cue told 6 weeks but was going be 6 months before seen for casting so decided go private second opion who talked with nhs orthtics and all agreed afos needed but waiting times to long so went with private company

Cast and got in 3 weeks nhs guy happy to as knew was reputable company and course not bothered him
ds had regular reviews privately adjustments as needed

ff 6 months we moved areas and here there's been clash as physio not happy private even paed mentioned etc so keep them of my back agreed to see nhs team cue 12 week wait in meantime ds afo lining fell apart called nhs etc told them but could not see earlier and obviously did not want to go private ATM in vase nhs disagreed

Ds not wearing afos just normal shoes which he gas walked over and got blisters from :( and complains they hurt to wear/walk

physio talked about piedro boots and innesoles but last time piedro boots not worked as he gas. Very narrow feet and they slid round in boots

Am I within rights tomorrow to disagree with what the nhs lady if not happy though on phone she asked who ds wad seeing when k gave name she wax kinda suprise that I'm seeing her on nhs as the clinics rep is very good am hoping she says I'm best staying with them

I admit only seeing nhs to keep paed/physio of my back also am carefull as have reputation of disagreeing with proffesionals wax threat of cp issues one point but even ds sw (disablity child team ) agreed no case

can i say feck of the lot of you and stay with the private company yes i know costs money but been worth every penny ds afos neve once rubbed and saw them more than nhs.

Also ironic he first suggested Eds to me as well , nhs urmed and arghed yet when saw gosh took them 5 minutes to dx it

It may depend if you're asking the NHS to pay for ds to stay with the private company.

bigcar · 19/10/2010 20:15

well if you're paying of course you can tell the NHS to bog off Smile They do piedros in a narrow fitting so if they are mentioned ask for the narrow ones.

roundthebend4 · 19/10/2010 20:34

no snowmash i paid for them myself last time and happy to keep paying .for it for me its been worth every penny
He sees the ortic consultant every 3 months as part of the serive with getting afos is just the consultant also does the casting and same company makes them so there tends to be less room for error

am hoping that the n hs person is more than happy for me to continue where he has been seen and tells the physio that be there tomorrow that to

ty bigcar when last had nhs only provided one width yet ds is only a d width in clarks etc .

Ahh...in that case don't see the problem.

If you're really pressed, there's always the have them at the back of the cupboard option (for back-up).

bigcar · 19/10/2010 20:50

oops my mistake, they do narrow, xnarrow and xxnarrow so width shouldn't be a problem here

roundthebend4 · 20/10/2010 09:50

Ty was never offered that on nhs las time they never even checked width

Think problem will have is the new physio is very anti private advice yet the company have been great learnt more from them than ever of the nhs 5 minute in out appoinments

Mind this is a physio who did not even know about EDs

I had thought there was only one narrow fitting, our physio had a piedro foot measurer thingy last time we went, like the one they use for babies in clarks and she mentioned then about a narrower fitting boot. May be it's because they have to order them specially or something that they don't mention it.

I don't get the issue with going private, it's hardly unheard of Hmm hope you have better luck today.

Ty well went today physio who was adamant Ali g with paed wanted nhs opion well she examinded ds then turned round to physio and said well can tell yu why ds wore afos and why he needs them again.Yet physio said oh I reckon boots will do him she. Was afnant boots no good and for all the support there give he might as well wear trainers andcrawl

Though physio did have to agrees that ds walking ablity had gone downhill in few weeks now walking with bent knees and crouching postion as had no support

Then turned Roy d apolgised said yes ds needs afos again but she could notfit in for a casting appointment for 4-6 months then fitting be 8-10 weeks after so explained about going private and that his dx was the same she knows the guy ds sees

So with her support and understanding. Two fingers to physio paed etc were going back to private .There casting them next week then pick up be 2 weeks later where they can do any small adjustments on the spot
