Hi was wondering if any of you experienced mums could help please.
A multi agency meeting has been arranged regarding my DS 3.2.
He is suspected asd/adhd. Pre school cant cope with him and at present only have him for 6 hours week rather than 15.
The Paed cant attend so is sending a letter to support, SALT on holiday so sending her documents in. New health visitor attending, myself, headteacher, head of pre school, Ed Psych, Advisory teacher and I am also hoping parent partnership.
What should I expect, ask, do etc please? Has anyone else been through this? What would you suggest? Going to have to try my upmost best not to cry and I just want to do the best to support DS.
Its a week tomorrow.

Thanks

  1. He is being discriminated against due to disability. NT kids get 15h a week, your ds is getting 6h.
  2. His provision is not suitably resourced ie doesn't have the skills / staff ratios to manage his behaviour let alone start the intensive early intervention he needs.
  3. You will be requesting a statutory assessment regardless of the meeting's outcome, cos that allows you to state primary school choice and safeguards his extra provision.
  4. You don't care whether his diagnosis is adhd asd hfa odd gdd mld etc. His needs are what they are, and have to be met whichever label is eventually chosen.
  5. You are uber-mum even if you cry. 'i'm upset because so many children are failed by the system and I'm here to make sure ds doesn't become one of them'. Or whatever. Bring someone/ anyone with you. PP wd be good but even a random near-stranger would balance the ratios & divert attention if you get sniffly.

Tell them in advance you are recording it, and if anyone has any objections you'll be taking your laptop and typing it up word for word which you'll put on a memory stick, print off at the venue and they'll all be expected to sign, - but they'd better add another hour or so onto the meeting because you're a very slow typer.

Tis what I'm gonna do from now on.

I had a multi disciplinary meeting at dd's (10) school at the end of August.

Myself, Paed, Support for learning teacher, class teacher, OT, Speech therapist and Head attended.

The Paed seemed to 'lead' the meeting, everyone was asked for their input. Towards the end of the meeting the Paed and the Ot agreed on a dx which I wasn't expecting. Professionals gave advice to teacher on how to best support dd at school. We now have a support plan in place, everyone is on the same page and things are better at school.

I found the lead up to the meeting quite daunting but it was fine Smile

your Ds should be getting 15hrs if not then they need to suggest other alternatives to this, what about repite, request ass of needs as if cant be attained at preschool do you reqiure further support. i would argue yes if he is only getting 6hrs. who has requested and leading as will make a huge difference IMO. you need to write down what your expectations are and also what your wishes are...def have some one with you whom also has same list and can take over from your points when you are feeling lost. best of luck.
