DS1 started school early sept with statement already in place. Statement includes DS1 to have an IEP.

Is there a deadline for the school to draw one up? SENCo said IEP meeting will happen after half-term.

No deadlines. It will take them some time to draw up an IEP once your child starts school.

I can't find where but I'm sure I've read somewhere that they have 6 weeks, so if it's straight after half term that would probably be about right, if I've counted the weeks properly.

thanks. I couldn't find anything concrete about how long the school/lea can go without providing the contents of a statement which is confusing. 6 weeks sounds reasonable though SENco was quite casual "some time after half-term to have the meeting", no idea how long it will take after that to actually get the IEP.

Hi

You'll probably get more responses if you start your own thread (as my title isn't that relevant).

Have the LA agreed to assess or you doing the initial request to assess?

To ask for the assessment we did a standard letter (IPSEA have a template) and attached his dx reports and recent S&L reports. The LEA then sent us a form to complete and we followed that. It asked what we though his SEN were, what he had difficulties with at preschool and at home, who was involved with him (e.g. SALT, Paed etc), what we thought he needed to be helped with at school and an over view of his difficulties in general.

Once the stat assessment was agreed we did a more in depth report and broke it down into relevant sections for DS1. So Development history (e.g. when first noticed he had difficulties/delays what and when he was dx), Speech & Language then went into details of his difficulties, play and behaviour, Self-care (e.g. toileting dressing etc), social, gross motor skills, fine motor skills, sensory issues, general health, preschool. Then finished with a general statement e.g. what we felt the level of support DS1 would need.

Hope it all goes smoothly

SEN COP
8:39
c the third sub-section should describe the arrangements to be made for setting
shorter-term educational and developmental targets for the child. The targets
themselves should not be part of the statement but should form an integral part of their IEP. By their nature such targets will require regular review and revision while the longer-term objectives in sub-section 1 will not. The child?s school should devise the first IEP, in consultation with their parents and, where appropriate the child, within two months of placement at a different school, or immediately the statement is finalised if the child remains in the same school. The child?s achievements, in the light of the IEP,
should be reviewed at least twice a year by the school, and fully considered at the first
annual review of the statement when further targets can be set.

(my bold) Hope that helps - I presume your ds would count as having started in a new placement, so 2 months?
