DS is nearly 5, has a dx of autism and speech and language disorder.

Following advice given on this board, i decided to stop trying to get teacher to see DS's asd symptoms, but to focus on his educational needs instead.
But it would seem DS has no additional educational needs Hmm
For example, apparently he is very good at predicting what is going to happen while looking at a book.
He is able to complete all adult-led tasks; he has no trouble initiating conversations and talking; ....ect

I just do not get it anymore.
Every day i see DS struggling to engage properly and focus on various activities, let alone complete anything by himself without lots of prompting and work on our part.

And it isn't just me that have noticed his difficulties. At the language unit he attended last year, at his old MS nursery, and of course the autism team who dx him 4 months ago.

Teacher must have a magical wand or something as when he is at school DS has no difficulties and no issues. Confused

What is going on??? I'm at a loss of what to belive now. Confused

Sadly, sometimes teachers don't see that a child has difficulties if its not causing a problem to the teacher.
If he is not dificult in class it may be easier for the teacher just to overlook his needs.
Can you get hte school SENCO to observe, maybe a the teacher needs a kick up the arse fresh pair of eyes.

I think it will have to come down to that sadly. Having to get an independant EP whom i can trust.

I can understand how ASD issues can be overlooked or missed by teacher in a busy classroom, but for the learning side of things it just does not add up.

DS has moderate speech and language delay (6th percentile at his last salt assessment 3 months ago). He has to over-learn things, cannot grasp many concepts especially asbtracts ones, he needs lots of prompting and guiding, ...ect

How on earth can teacher do not see this?
It makes no sense at all.

That is odd, genie. DD1 is 5 in December, and was on the 5th centile in December '09 (not assessed since). Her SAL delay is beyond obvious at all times, with accompanied immaturities of speech. As you know, she is in a special school now, although she is the most verbal in her YR/Y1 class, I think.

Perhaps the stories are concrete enough that he can interpret them, and it will all become clearer as the concepts become more abstract?

Exactly, it is odd and suspect imo.

Like i said i can accept how the ASD issues can be missed or overlooked by teacher, but fgs DS 's speech and lang.delays are so obvious and always there.
It isn't like a sensory or an interaction issue whcih can varie a bit according to where he is or who he is with.

I'm just so worried that what Starlight has mentioned could be what is happening...Sad
