Right to an adequate education - law?

Hi

I know the law provides the LA must provide an adequate education - as distinguished from the best education - but where is this set out? Is it in the Education Act?

Is it the SEN code or does it reference the law in the SEN code?

Isn't the word 'appropriate' used rather than adequate which can then have a wider definition.

The actual word is "suitable" and it is throughout the Education Act 1996, which forms the basis for the SEN CoP. I will have a look for the exact line of the Act that states it.

"7 The parent of every child of compulsory school age shall cause him to receive efficient full-time education suitable?

(a)to his age, ability and aptitude, and

(b)to any special educational needs he may have,

either by regular attendance at school or otherwise."
