Parental statement for SA

OK, I'm about to embark on the parental advice as part of DS' SA.

I did a 12 page statement for his application for a SA which was approved in Sept. I now have to do another parental advice.

I was going to use much of the same information with addded info from the independent SALT and other suggestions.

Do you concentrate on provision in this bit? I'm trying to see how it should differ.

I just used the one for SA but updated it with recent information.

I did what you are thinking of.

PP,good round here, read it through and changed some bits. They also added the exact amount of provision we need/want for ds and used reports to back up why he needed it. Mine was a bit vague sounding!

I also resent all reports just to make sure and was advised to add a list of all professionals I wanted them to contact again.

PP then had me ring round all profs and tell them what I needed them to write! I found that hard but managed it for ds. So far the reports I have read include what I asked for, some a little bland though!

They are supposed to send you the reports before they admit them, I did have one read out over the phone! I asked for a copy because it was impossible to take it in!

Hope that helps, it sounds like you are a couple of weeks behind us.

Good luck Smile

I highlighted all the parts in the reports that identified a specific education support need.
So for example anywhere that says "X required frequesnt reminders to keep him on taks" Or "X requires frequesnt breaks" had a bright pink highlighter on it.

I also repeatedly used the phrase "In order for X to access the curriculum equal to his peers he would need adult support" & then itemised all the areas throughout the day that I felt he would need support.
I added up the hours and said that I believed he needed x amount of hours adult support plus targeted support in x, y & z areas.

We have ended up with a very good statement BUT i think we are in a good LEA anyway so maybe my parental statement was crap Grin
Good luck!

I have been trying to complete my parental report form too for SA. However, there is not a question asking what support I think is required. Is this usual? I did put some details on the parental request form they sent after I had requested the SA. No-one has really asked how many hours I feel are needed.

Thanks for this.

Anon - I only have the reports I referred to for the SA application which I referenced in that statement. Of the info gathered for the SA:

  1. There is a LA EP report which I haven't seen yet, and which it is not the policy of this LA to disclose without a FOI Act request Hmm. The EP will send me a copy but it won't be here until about the same time I have to file my statetment
  1. There will be a report from a SALT from the NHS but she isn't seeing DS until the day before the deadline for filing
  1. Our own EP doesn't see DS until Nov

There's nothing much else to go on!!

FUck thats shit, the system should work to support you not pull against you.
Can you sweet talk the EP in to getting the report to you sooner?
