Advice on IEP?s

Henry is about to have his first real IEP written, I have been told I will be invited to the meeting.

Has anybody any advice on what I should be looking for, asking for, insisting on? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I would ask what stage he has been placed on ( action, action plus, (or statement) and then ask what provision they are making for him, and whether that meets his entitlement in relation to the stage he is on,

What targets they are considering making for him ( and that can also cover social, speech etc)( and if not agree or not sure why those targets have been chosen, question it)

and then say what you feel your son needs support with also.

Just make sure they are clear on what they are offering him, how they are going to focus the support, and that you fully understand and agree with the support, and targets made.

Hi Tensing

My ds is at pre-school and is on his 3rd IEP. We've found that it's important to ask HOW they're going to achieve the goals set. It has been easy to say which areas needed improvement, but difficult to say how the targets are going to be met. We ended up paying a private SALT to go into the nursery and write a couple of pages of exercises they could do with him - these are now attached to his IEP. But I daresay if he's at school they will have more expertise on what they should be doing.

Hi
I'm a SEN teacher. I like parents to contribute to targets that will help them at home whether it be a social, self-help or communication type skill. Parents also ask too how they can continue the target at home - so that might be worth asking about
