Thought I would start a new thread to answer your questions:

Jimjams - dd1 is in kindy at a SEDU. Here in QUeensland we have SPecial Education Development Units - and they take children from birth - so until they are three you attend a playgroup situation where the parent stays as well.

When they turn three the start a kindy ( centre based programme) two mornings a week from 9 - 11.15am. THe parents don't stay after this. HEr teacher is fab and has told the head of the unit how much she loves having dd1 in her class which is always nice to hear. There are only six children in this class and it is a lovely little class.

She loves it and is doing really well there. Developing little independence skills like putting her lunch in the fridge and hanging up her towl when she gets there, putting lunch things away after break. APparently from my spy in the playground once a week - she is doing really well on the little obstacle course they have to do

Then when they trun 4 I think they do a day and a half in the programme.

I have also enrolled her in ms kindy starting two days a week next year. WHile she is there she will have a sn aide who will work with her. SO it will be interesting to see how that goes.

here

this is the 'best' kindy organisation we have here.

we have to pay for the kindy - think it is about 14 dollars a day. From memory they get a very limited amount of money from the government.

Oh that's interesting- a mix of ms and specialist education sounds fantastic (and a real chance for you to see which suits her). ds1's school has a unit on a ms site, and some of the more "suitable" children attend that. They are taught by special school staff but integrate when appropriate. It's a method I prefer I think (gentler).

Am off to see the prospective junior (primary ) school principal after the holidays to see what it is like and then whether I need to look elsewhere. Is a Steiner school sort of near us - well about a 30 minute drive away and I would love for her to attend that BUT the drive alone would get to me and dh said we would have to move - as that area is an up and coming - very expensive.....
