It seems that ds is an angel at school and a devil at home?

After 18mth of no real dx, we got referred to camhs. Had initial appt last month and I was given some ASD questionaires to fill in and 1 for pre-school.

Handed the one into pre-school which then never got to camhs, so I drove to camhs and picked up 2 new forms one for pre-school again and one for school.

I handed them in this morning 10.30 am requesting they be given back to me so I could physically deliver them, school sec rang me at 12.15pm to say the forms had been filled in and the HT had delivered them directly to camhs. Hmm

Cue a phone call just now, lady from camhs saying going off the questionaires school/pre-school filled in ds will not meet the criteria for an ADOS assessment, yet off mine he did.

I have been vomiting all day (some bug) and both dc got sent home vomiting, and after this phone call I could just cry and never stop. Sad

Oh dear :(

My DD is an angel at school but they dont 'see' her difficulties...no understanding of ASD...our inclusion teacher can...have you got one who could vouch for you?

Hope you feel better soon.

The same thing has happened to us with community peads and salt, don't know how to help because we haven't got any further than you.Sad

Pucca and I need2 explain that school are missing the signs and ask if they would go into school and observe your child in the setting before turning you down for the ADOS?

auntevil · 01/10/2010 10:37

I can never understand why so much weight is given to school input and so little with family. Like starlight says, proportionally they spend longer at home. The first Paed my DS saw actually said he would give a dx 'if the school requested' - At the time he was 15 hours of pre-school. So, he was more prepared to give credence to a mix of people that had known him for 15 hours, 2 terms, than to GP, HV and us that had known him since birth. It's a different story 4 years later. So keep pushing - and pushing.

Thanks again everyone, I cannot express just how valuable I find this site for getting advice.

I am disgusted with the school to say the least! The thing is we now have a statement for ds which is 22hrs ta per week, I feel like ringing the head and saying "Oh well seeing as though there is obviously nothing wrong with ds then we may as well not bother with this statement then huh?"

I have spoken to camhs lady, we are seeing her again next Weds and she has said that someone from their team will go in and observe ds on a day observation.

I am also going to take the advice sent for statement written by HT(requesting 26hrs a week funding which states that ds has social interaction problems) and the "lovely" book I got when ds finished pre-school with a number of pictures of ds isolating himself at snack time, xmas dinner, and stood with his hands over his eyes while meeting santa, I also have a video of the pre-school play in which that ds staggers to the stage with his elf top over his head almost falling over, he then proceeds to stand on stage with his eyes over his face.

I just feel they have failed me so much! Why???

That sounds positive. Well done! Focus on what you have achieved and keep pushing.

pucca · 01/10/2010 11:27

Hands over his face not eyes...whoops!

Thanks Wasuuup3000...Do you know what though? He has only been in reception for 12 days and already I feel I am getting absolutely no support from the school, I am seriously debating if I should look around other schools but then I am torn as that would affect ds in a big way.

Oh also forgot to add apparently school and pre-school scored ds as 2/40 on these ASD questionaires.

Totally inconsistent with my form in which mine scored him as 25/40 or thereabouts, maybe even more.

The "cut-off" is 20/40.

What is it with schools not seeing the difficulties atm!!! Grrrr....

We are getting the same from DS's school (he started ms recep.) everything seems 'rosy', DS has no difficulties according to what teacher writes in his contact book. Hmm

Thankfully for us DS already has his dx. Because if he didn't, i could see that school wouldn't be helping with their comments and opinions over DS' asd isssues.

Good luck with the CAMHS obs.

The HT has called for a meeting with me in the morning...This should be interesting!

It isn't helped by the fact that they so often learn (oddly quickly) to conform at school, so then they don't show up the problems as much and they have spent so long at school keeping it contained that they come home and explode so much worse.

I hate the return to school after summer - we have gotten into a nice even keel, then the demon child returns.

pucca · 04/10/2010 23:52

Flamesparrow - Exactly! but I have also found out from the SALT who went in last week to assess my ds, that the HT had said that something needs setting up soon as my ds is not communicating with the staff at all!

Flamesparrow · 04/10/2010 23:59

We had a CAF session at the end of last term. No-one bothered to mention it to the new teacher this term.

Appointment with the community paed soon which tends to result in him telling me that AS is language based (taking my mum this time - she gets less flustered than me).

Our issue that dd1 is "different" but not enough.

pucca · 05/10/2010 00:05

Why is it all so hard?!

the vineyards are in cahoots with the education authority. They make us resort to wine by being useless therefore increasing profits.

borderslass · 05/10/2010 07:01

Watch these forms don't know if there the same where you are but when DS was being assessed it took 3 lots of forms as school didn't have a clue and was told to fill in on his best day by the twat who told me all he needed was my 100% attention.
