Frustrated with speech

Hi,
Not sure if this is the right place to post this Confused.

My DS (aged 4) has a stammer, and has done and been under a SALT for about 18 months.
He is now seeing the "disfluency specialist" weekly.

The "problem" is that he doesn't do it with her, as it only seems to occur when he initiates ideas/conversation. With the SALT she plays games etc with him, but he only answers her questions with one or two syllables.

So we record a range of his occurances on our ipod and play it back to her when we see her.

She is amazed at the difference, and seems a bit lost as to how to manage it. So she gives the usual advise, and to spend 10 minutes a day with him where we can model fluent speech etc.

I just find it all a bit frustrating and depressing that she is unable to be more proactive in her sessions, and I'm sure she feels the same.

I am so worried, that while it is good that he doesn't do it all the time, that it may get worse and spill over into the rest of his speech.

Any advice from experienced mums?

Sorry no help or advice specifically other than to suggest maybe try another speech therapist? You could try your local childrens centre and see if they can see him and offer any additional advice, or consider a private SALT if you are able to afford it. Perhaps another point of view from a professional will be able to reassure you or give you new ideas and help.
