There is a fantastic new online resource for parents and carers of special needs children, called Netbuddy.

You can find practical tips and suggestions on a whole range of everyday issues, like night-time routines or challenging behaviour - and the best thing about is it's put together by parents and carers themselves, so they really understand learning disability!

They've just launched and they want people to spread the word, so please pass this on to as many people as you can. Really worth checking out and supporting - www.netbuddy.org.uk

It's very different to mumsnet. The tips are all listed under individual sections, so you can go in and search, say 'bed-wetting' or 'dressing'. You can also add tips yourself - the idea being to create an ongoing resource.

I know the people who've set it up, which is why I'm so enthusiastic about it. I think they are approaching mumsnet for a reciprocol link, but thanks for the advice!

I think they're planning to add an education section. They just launched last week. Don't think they plan to censor anything, but they do want people to be supportive of one another - ie other parents.

Interesting...I was thinking of suggesting something similar, but more informal, linked to this board. On another (unrelated) forum we use GoogleDocs to provide a basic document of tips and links that anyone can edit. There's often a lot of advice/links repeated here and it makes sense to have something with our collective wisdom and links in one place.

Actually I had been thinking of writing up a blog with some tips based on what I've learnt, but I'm far too lazy overwhelmed to do it all myself and I think it's something that would work better with a group effort.

tbh I think you should pay mn to advertise, I do get a little bit tire of people advertising other forums on the sn topic,

Swolo · 29/09/2010 11:20

2shoes - it's not a forum! That's the whole point - it's exactly as sugarcandymonster is saying - it's simply a site that collects everyone's tips and ideas rather than them just being lost into the ethernet. Netbuddy is a non-profit organisation, set up by a mum. Nothing cynical about it. I'm just trying to pass on the word as I think it's a great idea.

Just checked it out, its all tweeting, i am a dinosaur and dont understand all this tweeting. Definitely more of a tip sharing website as oppose to a support/help forum like mn.

Swolo · 29/09/2010 11:34

Claw3 - know what you mean about being a dinosaur. I have to ask my 11 year old how to do anything online these days! The tweeting on Netbuddy is optional though. The main idea is to share tips Smile

Just heard - mumsnet has put a link to Netbuddy on the special needs webguide, so it's all above board, and fine to discuss it here Smile
