DD1 has been invited to a friend's house for lunch and a play date after nursery this morning... it is a bit of a first but she seemed happy with the information that she was going to M's house in M's mummy's car and I would come and fetch her later on!
The friend's mum is lovely and knows all about DD1's problems but this is a total first and the mum doesn't know any signing (i've taught her hungry, toilet and thirsty for today!).

Now- what to do with myself til them?!

I can understand why you would be nervous if it's sort of a first.

Even though I would also be nervous, I can't wait for it to happen. My DD is nearly 4 and we still haven't had any play dates. She struggles socially. She's very friendly but most children find her overwhelming so she hasn't made any friends as of yet. I have to say it's like a dagger through my heart when I see other mums meet and take there children to the park together. Would love this, but she just scares them away. She is being acessed for ASD currently(right at the start of this though)so this would explain her lack of social skills.

But yes, enjoy the free time if you can. :)

Will try my best! DD2 might have other ideas though!

we're kind of the opposite to you Suzyinwonderland- she is very introverted so normally the children don't think to include her in invites etc. She just plays in her own little world. I gave up work earlier this year so that I could at least invite lots of other children here to play (one at a time so as not to overwhelm her). This is our first return invite... I sort of work on the basis that I have to be super sociable to compensate for her lack of social skills- but I'm a bit rubbish at small talk!! oops!

success all round! i hate to be a show off, but other mum has reported that she was super happy all afternoon and she even (truthfully) communicated afterwards that she'd had a ham sandwich for lunch! hurrah!

yep! well, she signed sandwich and said "aam" which i recognise as ham... she apparently spent a lot of time jabbering away whilst there, not that anyone understood anything!
