I did hear half a program on the radio where it said local council must provide transport (taxis) for children living 3 miles from their school, and 2 miles if they are under 8. There are also lots of discretionary taxis allocated. I didnt hear the bit about disabled children but common sense tells me they would take away the other taxis before the disabled ones. doesnt it??? Maybe they should get a cheaper mini bus. Maybe it would be cheaper to provide bus fares if there is a bus service. I really dont think the SN children will be the first to lose transport.

Nope. Can't find it but would like to know myself so let me know if you find it. High transport bills and a desire to make cuts is the reason they are giving parents no choice in SLD schools locally.

it is on the times on line site, but I am not signed up for it.
My db was on about the goverment was going to make parents pay for transport

It was on Radio 4 You & Yours yesterday, I guess the Times picked it up from there
You can go on radio 4 website and listen again - it was the first item
They are removing discretionary transport ie for under 5's and over 16's it was Northamptonshire I think but other councils are looking to do similar.

hope that doesn't include sn,

they have to pay for sen transport from 5-16 (unless they argue its parental choice to go farther afield) but not for under 5's or over 16's. Some councils incl mine are thinking of not paying for under 5 / over 16 transport for Sen anymore. It might mean children delaying starting school until term after they are 5

Alot of councils are saying they will cut anything they don't have a statutory duty to provide but you can bet that won't include vote losers like closing leisure centres - just things minority groups depend on

also the staff haven't got a clue "all people with CP are the same" was one bright thing said to ds, obviously he shot them down in flames........but ffs
