Procedure for transferring schools

I already have a thread about ds3's problems with primary asd unit, I have found a ss school in our borough that has a place in reception, they have said they would take him.
I spoke to the head assessment officer today who said that we have to call an annual review to see why the school is not suitable as before ds started they said they could meet his needs. The HT at ss said as far as she was concerned that it would just be a case of changing the name of the school on his statement, and that this has happened before, current school agreed.
Is the LA trying it on or is this proper procedure, I can't seem to find anything in my paperwork to say either way.
DS's statement say's he requires an adapted curriculum given by specialist trained teachers and within same group. The rest of it is more about therapy and help with personal care, social skills and alike.

What does it say in Pt 4 of his statement? It should state both the name of the school and the type eg. 'a mainstream primary' or 'a special school for autism' etc.

Units often aren't named specifically in part 4, which means that the placement is considered to be a mainstream placement. If he transfers to a special achool, that would be a change of the type of placement (ms to special) and not just the name of the school.

It would be a different matter if he was moving from one special school to another, or from one mainstream to another - in those cases you are transferring to the same type of school and it simply comes down to a matter of parental choice.

If both schools are in agreement then hopefully it will just be a paperwork exercise. But the placement type follows on from how the needs and provision is described in parts 2&3 and it seems that the current description is leading to a mainstream/unit placement rather than ss.

You should agree to the AR to get the wording in pts 2&3 to reflect your son's needs/provision. You should still be able to request an emergency placement in the ss while all that is happening so you don't have to wait for all the paperwork to be finalised.

Thanks sugar I will speak to PP tomorrow and see if they will help with the re wording of parts 2&3.
In part 4 says "a class resourced for pupils with Autistic spectrum disorder within ......... primary school which is a mainstream school from September 2010"
Looks like is going to be a bit more complicated on that one.

Apparently parts 2&3 are fine for the ss. Only problem now is that assessment officer is not getting back to me, I have left 3 messages.

Sounds like it should all be straightforward, hopefully. Start following up phone messages with email to add to the paper trail.
