Been approached by a agent wanted to sign DD1 onto their books. She is beutiful, but i think that because Im her mum. She is happy to smile for a camera but doesnt have great self confidence. It could really build her confidence up but just dont know if it would be wayy to much for her.

What do you lot think?

May I ask which agency approached you?. Do they want money up front?.

Avoid Models Direct like the plague.

I'd be very careful with using modellling agencies as there are many charlatans and con merchants out there. I would suggest you read Alba's website re model agencies as it is informative and well written.

Are they a reputable agent from a known agency?

It could work. I have to be very careful with photography because of the flickering from the pre-flash lights etc, so that can be a hazard for some children on the autism spectrum too. Would the studio be happy for her to always be accompanied, have lots of breaks, be paid vast amounts of money Grin (well, you can live in hope...)?

Have heard of other mumsnetters using this agency.

Some general information for you (from Alba's website):-

"Children are one of natures beautiful gifts, however, when it comes to modelling no matter how much of a beauty, or how full of character, EVERY child model must be well behaved and have good manners. If you have a child, which will become either a shrinking violet, sulky or throw a tantrum or burst into tears when spoken to then forget it ! Child models must be easy to direct and when you are present at ease with strangers, such as the photographer, or client. Although it is many parents dream to see their child in a magazine or upon an advertisement poster, it is also very hard work for both the child and the parent. You must be a good timekeeper, reliable and prompt. You will need your own transport, your own telephone line or mobile and be able to be flexible with your time. You will have to have a pleasant personality and remember that no one likes a pushy or bolshy parent. If you have commitments which will prevent you from undertaking assignments with your child at a moments notice then you have to be realistic and get your child another hobby. We say that because it is better to think of this as a hobby and assume that child modelling will not pay huge sums of money. Note that fees earned by your child must be paid into a bank/savings account the name of the child. Chaperone fees are paid in the name of the parent. The most important factor when thinking about child modelling is that your child or teenager must enjoy participating, the minute they do not, then it is time for the modelling to stop".

Lisa .. If you do sign up it's quite relaxed about which castings you want to attend..and the portfolio shoot will give you a good idea ( and the agency) of how your dd might take to the studio.

Re portfolios:-

(again from ALBA)

There is no need to pay out for an expensive portfolio for children before joining any agency. It is not required since children are still growing and changing daily ? the agency will find a good value photographer to take a few pictures to start off with and then as baby / child undertakes assignments and those working shots will added to build the portfolio.
