Here are some suggested organisations that offer expert advice on special needs.

School transport might be refused - what else can I use in my complaint?

DS is mornings in special needs unit, afternoon in mainstream in a school 4.4 miles away. SO far I am dropping off younger one at nursery at 8.30 and then aim to get DS to school by 9 but I am regularly late as its impossible with traffic.

Panel rejected transport on Friday but were meant to be reconsidering it today, however answer tomorrow afternoon. On Friday a bus pass was mentioned which will not fix the situation but make it worse, both schools are not bus routes and will get him even more late on a bus.

There is another boy in his class that gets transport and lives 5 mins away from us, have informally been told they can fit another boy in the car easily once the LA authorises it.

School is 4.4m away, I have a younger sibling to drop off and DS is late wit the quickest form of transport (I drive him though the back routes), what else do they need to approve transport???

I know the budget is probably burnt on a first come first servce basis but we were only told DS got a place in the school on 31 August so couldnt have possibly applied for transport any earlier.

Any suggesting highly appreciated as I fear I may be facing a rejection tomorrow....Angry

If you can either name or msg the LA, then we can find the transport policy.

Most primary children get transport if the nearest suitable school is over 2 miles away.

Thanks for replying Lougle.

According to the policy, we are entitled to it by all means (being more than 2 miles away and another sibling is dropped off at the same time at different school) but in bold it says that they have specific budget each year and whilst they many not be able to offer taxi/bus they may offer bus pass or mileage reimbursement. The later doesnt solve the problem of DS getting to school late. Picking him up is again tricky as DS2 naps in the afternoon and I have to wake him up every day but that is not as urgent as the mornings.

They do have to provide transport BUT the contracts usually go out beginning of July so if he's only just got the place that is why but they can add children on mid term its happened with DS a younger boy was added on last year.

couldnt wait to share the content of the email this morning - transport AGREED.

I think they are trying it on to see if parents just live with it, so its really worth fighting it till the end and having a wonderful friends like all of you for support and advice. x
