and it doesn't loook good.
I feel totally and utterly sick. The little boy is in yr1 so would be 5/6 the same age as DD.

I knew that being a SN school it was possible for children to become terminally ill, but the reality of it has really hit me.

DD lost a class mate in her first year of maternelle (nursery school, aged three). NT child with undx'd diabetes. Horrible. Made you just want to hug them really really tight. And unbearable for the poor parents (not to mention you don't think that kids DIE of diabetes nowadays before SOMEONE notices what's up).
Poor little kid, and his poor parents Sad

Oh dear Sad. Very sorry to read this.

Ds was quite upset about it.
He understands death but he generally understands that it is something that happens when you are older or if there is some kidn of accident.

I have explained what happened to his friend (little boy wasn't in his class but they were in the same group at sports day and would often play at break/lunch together)

Little boy had a seizure whilst eating. he choked which caused another seizure.
He was airlifted to St Georges and he was in intensive care for the past fortnight.
They tried removing his ventilator a few days ago but he was still unable to breath unaided.
They intubated him again but further tests prove him to be brain dead Sad

His family decided it kinder for him to be allowed to pass away peacefully.
It must be the absolute worst decision in the world.

the entire story is tragic beyond compare but what upsets me most is that he has never woken up since teh incident so mum and dad have not been able to say goodbye. their last words would have been when they saw him off to school.

I am heartbroken for them.

Gigantaur I am so sorry to hear this.
if you need to talk you know where I am.
have been through this a few times(2 class mates of dd's) and it is heartbreaking(don't post on my fb page though as one of the mums is on there, message me) xxx

Very sorry to hear this too. Sadly, we lost one of ds's schoolmates just last week. School deals with this so sensitively yet their own hearts must break as well since our staff develop such close relationships with our children and us.
I'm thinking of this mum a lot at the moment, although not a close friend. In the years we met at school discos etc I never once saw her not smiling and laughing and dancing with her child. They were so lucky to have each other.

Such a sad story :(

Gigantaur · 30/09/2010 23:03

I didn;t know Mathew but i did see him in the christmas play last year.

He struck me as a very happy, smiling little boy.

School will be amazing about it all as they are with everything but i agree, they must really be feeling it.

I just feel so close to tears whenever i think about it.
