Anyone one else got an ASD kid who wakes up ridiculously early?

We've been up since 3.30am. This happens frequently.

Any tips? I've got to work all day and mainlining coffee and junk makes me feel grumpy and surly (well, grumpier and surlier)

do you have melatonin?? if not ask paediatrician about it. my ds wakes up super early too, mostly 4ish but sometimes as early as 1!! we have melatonin which sometimes is a godsend and helps but sometimes it just doesnt, ive no idea why!! how old is your dc?

He's 6 and being looked at for ADHD as well so I wondered if it was part and parcel of that.

Recently it's got worse - I was hoping school would make in sleep in a bit more, but alas no.

I know there's loads out there who have it much worse though - sorry for being a whingebag.

Thanks for the melotonin tip.

my ds has possibly got adhd too, hes nearly 5 though so they wont diagnose i til he 5!! definately ask about the melatonin, make an appointment sooner than it was planned to be and say youre desperate for some sleep, really lay it on otherwise they will be funny about it perhaps, depends on the paed!! completely irrelevant to the lack of sleep as wont make him sleep but dont forget you should be entitled to higher rate care on dla if hes up that early all the time and needs significant help during the day.

Not ASD, but mega early here too. Melatonin is well worth it.

you need the slow release melatonin rather than the normal one that only works for an hour if your lucky.

My 13 year old DD with AS doesn't go to sleep until after 1.00am. She doesn't like to be the only one awake which is a bit of a pain.

Well, we get middle rate DLA - the sleep thing varies. He zonked right out tonight but I suspect he'll be up at a sparrow's fart tomorrow.

When do the clocks change? I can't remember if they're going forwards or back....

Will try and get to see the paed - though we've only just been to see him last month.

I had no idea you could get slow release melatonin. Thanks for that Smile

Going to bed in a bit

March forward, fall back so they're going back this time but not til October isn't it?

I'll be asking for Melatonin at the psychiatrist appt next week.

Nooooo - I just can't get up at 2.30am!!!

My brain is literally mushed up. People just seem to realise the weird blooming lifestyle you develop because of ASD. My DH was astounded at the military precision we have getting ready for school (he's normally at work and misses it all) - everything timed to the minute and stuff placed exactly so and in exactly the same places.

I wonder at times, whether I'm so used to ASD that I've 'caught it'. Or maybe I've finally realised that routines just make life easier.....
