Anyone had success with chewy tubes?

DS is a chewer - he chews through his dummies at the rate of two or three a week. He also likes to chew his jumpers and if he isnt chewing something he is grinding his teeth.

I was wondering about chewy tubes - I have seen some on Ebay - has anyone found them beneficial?

OT who was worked with ds3 re slight delay in oro-motor skills raves about them (ds3 didnt need them in the end)

notOTi meant SALT

DD1 was given one by OT. She likes it. It doesn't stop her chewing other stuff though. But it does give us something to direct her to, by saying "have this..."

Dd2 chews everything (it seems to be getting worse), her clothes, her harness/backpack and her hair, i have tried giving her other things to chew but she still goes back to her clothes. She seems better when she has a dummy but now she's at school i cant really send her with a dummy.

I was a chewer (still am), i can remeber my mum moaning because i chewed holes in my school clothes.

They're great but we keep losing the buggers. Also chewelry's good [not sure of sp]

herjazz · 18/09/2010 19:48

Yes. My dd struggled to hold it without dropping so we used ties and dummy holders / mitten clips to secure onto bib

Also have chewlery which suits dd better as she cannot take it off/ pull at / loose

Would recommend both

My DS LOVES his, hard to know if makes a difference but his SALT said it is great for oro-motor skills. But quite apart from this it kept him happily busy for 2.5 hours in the car today!

Yes, we got two from his OT but he lost them both so am quite grateful for this thread as just gone on ebay and ordered some more, expensive though aren't they? Worth it though otherwise he chews and eats all kinds of rubbish.

ShadeofViolet · 18/09/2010 22:44

Thanks everyone.
Have ordered one to see how it goes - they are quite expensive but then I am spending £5 a week on dummies so if it helps I might actually save something :)

DS1 has quite a selection of chewy tubes, the green knobbly one (his favourite), a blue one, a red super chew & the P&Q's set.

It has been really good as without them he would either chew his hands or his clothing & wheelchair straps. They have also helped greatly with him having adult teeth coming through.

I bought his through Ebay too.
