In another thread you say that your DS has jumped from 2nd Percentile in VC to 92nd.

How do you know that his VC has improved, and that it isn't more a case of his attention/receptivity has increased, so he is more willing to demonstrate his comprehension?

Does that make sense? I read about your DS, and it is obvious that he is a bright cookie, so it doesn't make much sense to me that his verbal comprehension would be low.

I ask, not to challenge your DS's progress, or his qualities, but because I am having more general thoughts about these percentiles, and what they mean for our children.

DD1 has definite comphrehension difficulties, but I guess I wonder, if she had better attention skills, etc, would her comprehension improve? And that made me think of your DS, having done his ABA programme, and also having jumped such a significant level on VC, IYSWIM.

Hmm, ok, so basically, translating that to my DD, she could be so low on comprehension because she has LDs, or she could be so low on comprehension because of her attention difficulties, or it could be both, and that is likely.

But either way, the tests aren't likely to shed much light. I hadn't heard of vineland. DD has had the reynell, and part of CELF-4.

Realistically, I don't think we could afford it, and DD1 will be at school 30 hours per week, plus 6 hours travel per week, so 36 hours out of the house. She will be exhausted.

No, I was just trying to work out in my own head what DD1's 'potential' to improve was. Right now, it is confusing because although she is on the 5th centile, so in theory well behind other children her age, she is in a Special school, and is one of the most verbal in her class, which puts her on the 98th centile in her class Grin, you see what I mean? It is hard to guage just how hard things will be for her.

Yes, that sounds good, thanks Star. They are a good school, I think. When I had her home visit last week, one of the questions was "What targets would you particularly like us to work on at school?"
