Hi, everyone,

I hope you don't mind me posting here. Ds has been invited to a little boy's party. He has CP (I think) and has very special needs - I don't think he can do anything for himself. I have no idea what to get him for his birthday, and I rarely see his mum to ask her - and if I do ask I don't know how it will be recieved.

So I thought I'd ask you lovely ladies on here for advice.

He's five btw.

Thank you!

I think your best bet would be EL vouchers then his mum can buy what she thinks is best for him. I have asked for voucher for ds3 for xmas as it is easier, and he tends to get stuff that either he doesn't play with at all or that are totally wrong for him.

How about a story book, my niece has many varied and severe special needs but she absolutley loves stories with brightly coloured pictures or touchy feely ones.

Thanks, JJ, I was thinking vouchers but couldn't think where to get them. That's a really good idea. And his brother has his birthday on the same day, so I can get them both vouchers and they'll be the same. Smile

I think vouchers are always a good idea. Also, I think you could call his mum up - I do that when I don't know the child very well. It doesn't have to be about his special needs, just asking: is there anything in particular that he likes or does not like, that sort of thing.

Thanks, sc13.

I'm not sure this little boy can do very much beyond looking at his toys, I'm not even sure if he can hold things. And part of me thinks that I should know, IYSWIM. I don't want to appear insensitive.

Maybe something like a hat& gloves set?
I would try and ask if theres anything he would like/need, my SN DS didnt really play with toys on his last birthday so I asked for money towards a new baby monitor I didnt see the point in getting loads of toys if they werent going to be used -IYSWIM

I would never be offended by anyone asking me, but may be that is just me. Vouchers do work really well though.

Thank you, Sparkle. And thank you too, Imaww, the hat and gloves set idea is really good.

I think I will try and catch his mum if I see her.

Maybe a story book with a CD, so that he can listen and/or have it read to him?

jammydodger · 13/09/2010 20:45

What about something sensory/tactlie like a bubble machine, some type of light show thing or something from the novelty warehouse (do a google!)..?

spiritmum · 13/09/2010 20:45

Oh, that's a nice idea, too. Smile

Thank you all so much. Smile
