Low Muscle Tone - help/advice with physio please

My DS, now 13 months, has today been seen by a physio and we have been told that he has low muscle tone in both legs. HV referred him as he wasn't mobile, pulling up etc at 11 months. In the last 3 weeks he has started to pull himself along the floor on his tummy using his toes not his legs, but still no ability to pull up on things or go from sitting to lying or vice versa.

Anyway, the physio has given us some exercises to do to help him and I was wondering if anyone had any tips or advice on getting the best from them or has any success stories to share?

Thanks for reading.

Has your HV or Physio mentioned infant massage? It can help build up muscle tone and babies love having their legs massaged. Have a look at International Association of Infant Massage website. Peter Walker' s books are good too he does massage and baby yoga (possibly similar to the exercises you've got) My LO loved doing his exercises! Hope this helps.

Thansk BF, nobody had mentioned massage to us, but I've found and ordered the book you recommended.

It is just so hard knowing what to do, this has come as something of a shock to us, though I think I knew in my heart all wasn't well with my DS. Now we are waiting to see a dev. paed. to see if he has any other issues, possible CP.

Thanks for replying.

do as much as you can while your little one is young-they will never know and it will become part of your daily routine and routine for your baby so hopefully as they hit the terrible twos they will still cooperate with you...
my dd has cp diplegia and is now 5(last week) and returning to mainstream school on monday as a big year 1 girl.
i had a fright in the summer when her one visit of physio in the last 8 weeks mentioned that she felt a bit stiff.....aaaggghhhh....it's just so hard to fit everything in when they are older and i do worry about her being sat at a chair for a long period without much movement-but that's another story...
if you want to chat then please feel free to cat me(contact another talker at the top of the page)
