Theraputty

Anyone use it? Know a good place to buy it? I've found some little tubs on Amazon but it's quite pricey. I would just get some play dough but the theraputty comes in different 'strengths'

DS2 had some of this and he loved it.
It does last for ever and is more interesting than play dough as the ones we had were stronger but more liquid.
So they were hard to tear but if left in a ball they would 'melt' to a puddled form IYSWIM

But be careful. They stain if left anytwhere too long

They were a gift from a therpist friend. If I can get hold of her I will ask where she got them

Thanks pag - I am guessing Amazon is probably the cheapest. If she has any suggestions for somewhere I can get exercise suggestions I'd be really grateful as well.

Will check once home I have it for ds best bit is it does not go of like playdough does

One of the things do with ds is hide little toy bugs in it so has to pull apart to find them ge also enjoys stretching it seeing how far it goes

MissTired · 10/09/2010 09:24

we are going to order some for ds, they sell it on the fledglings site but have to ring up to order i think, not sure how comparible the price is though and about to go out so not got time to look now btu maybe worth a look?!

Bluesunbeam · 10/09/2010 09:56

We use silly putty, got it from Hawkins.

My cousin, a physio, said it is almost the same as theraputty.

Ds loves pulling it apart to find marbles, rolling it into snakes and making balls using one hand (not on the table, rolling between fingers and thumb)

I have to watch where he puts it as it forms a messy puddle if not in a container!

Thanks for all the ideas - will let you know what I go with.

Ds1 has everflex power putty ( NT but does a lot of climbing).£8 mark.( yellow, green and blue.. At different strengths)

And ds2 loves it :)

also ds2 has space putty ( tis black) which is about £5 mark.

thought I'd just throw some different colours at you guys :)

Hmm benefits now has some hand exercises as well (expensive mind). I can't see ds1 playing with it so the hand exercise (him copy me) might be worth giving a go.

Thanks for all the idea. I am still pondering.

Ds2 loves this and every time I take him to the OT I think I must order some, then I forget until next time. he uses the green stuff which is stiffer than silly putty (imo). He gets marbles/other small objects out and then hides them again. I seem to rememer the OT also getting him to roll it into a snake and then cut with scissors or a knife and fork.

HelensMelons · 11/09/2010 10:30

My ds also uses it with his OT - will ask her about it at next appt!

magso · 11/09/2010 10:46

Ooh lots of ideas for me too - thanks!!
(Came down this morning to find that ds had got up very early and made his own putty!! Cornfloury splatters and finger prints are everywhere - now how do I get that out the keyboard?)

magso · 11/09/2010 10:57

Ds is partial to the foam putty (Hawkins) The OT showed him how to model with it - ie a plate of food - peas (between finger and thumb/carrots (rolling). Now he makes figures - star wars men. It cleans up well - can vacuum up the ball bits. It was on special a few weeks back.

anonandlikeit · 11/09/2010 14:46

We hide ds2's magnetix balls in his, once he's got them out he has a big line of magnets to play with.
