Quick (dumb) DLA question

Sorry. Am having a particularly dim morning.

If your child has 1:1 or similar at school, does that get written up in the DLA form anywhere? Or are all the questions about "extra help" really about care from the family, at home?

Anything that is needed above the needs of a NT child should be mentioned, if school are supportive then you can ask for them to be the person to contact who knows the child well.

Definitely include lots of info about what support the child gets from 1 to 1 and also anything else he or she could do with but doesn't get.

I put that in the section about "anything else you would like to tell us about your child". I also included the relevant part of my child's Statement. Also asked the SENCo to do a statement as a person who knows the child well.
Although they are looking at what help you give your child any help they receive in another spehere is extra evidence. I don't know the age of your child, but if, for example they need help at Brownies it is worth getting the leader to do a statement about what their needs are.

I thought so. Which means she gets constant support (as near as 1:1 as makes no difference) from 9 till 3:30 5 days a week. But what section does it go in?

Part 8? I thought I had written it in but now looking again at the form all I have done is include a copy of the educational needs and say in Part 41 that I am sending it.
I remember doing a "day in the life of my child" too, but seem to have forgotten to photocopy that bit. On there you can include the provision at school.
Have you got the Cerebra booklet? It is really helpful.

I put the need for 1:1 in the anything else sections, but also included it in some of the going out questions for DS1, since he has 1:1 at playtime and lunchtime.

It's all evidence of additional care needs that can't just be written off as paranoid/shit parenting.

You need to write it throughout the form, whenever the question deals with something that is the reason your DD has 1:1.

For example, say she needs 1:1 because she is wobbly and a language delay.

Parts that deal with moving around - well you'd write whatever you needed to, then say "DD is so prone to falls/bumps/whatever that she requires 1:1 care at school"

Parts that deal with communication - write whatever, then say "DD has such communication difficulties that she requires 1:1 support at school to aid her communication..."

Or whatever. Just get it in at every opportunity, so that the overall theme is DD has care needs in excess of that required by children of her age.
