Just wanted to let you know that DS2 was born on 12th August - which is why i haven't been around.

Also DS1 took 5 steps today - I tricked him into thinking i was holding on to him, after i let go he just carried on going until he got to the door, realised i wasn't there and then did his usual thing of dropping to his knees. he has walked holding my hand/finger/skirt since january so it is clearly a matter of confidence, but am so pleased. Trouble is, nowi have to find a new trick as he has sussed what i was doing...

comgratulations how heavy was the birth ok etc etc and how and when were you preg??!!!

great news about ds2. my dd used to do this. We even had her holding onto paper and bus tickets!!!! soft toys are good ones too. fab news

Pages · 01/09/2005 14:31

Wow, thanks for the tip Fio. I will try getting him to hold onto a toy he is interested in. Does your DD walk okay now? What was the turning point that got her to walk indpendently? Or was it just a gradually progression from bus tickets and toys to nothing? DS will still drop to his knees when he realises you are not holding on - any tips from others also welcome!

DS2 - 7 lb 14, birth fantastic (elective ceasar, great music, no pain and a morphine high - sorry if that makes me less than a woman, but it was great for me after an emergency ceasar the first time. And as for how...the usual way!!!

she just did. She started to walk holding onto this soft floppy mouses arms and then we just tried other things. Then we realised she would stand independantly if you put her in the middle of the room. One day she saw something she liked on television and took about 4 steps towards it. Took ages for her to realise that yes she could actually walk and then it takes even longer for them to grasp they can walk outside, but it does come. I had a new baby aswell and she still wasnt walking at the time. Other things that helped was progressing from a normal push along walker to a lightweight push along pushchair as they are light and require alot more balance (but be careful to begin with [with] I dont want him toling straight over and hurting himself!) She does walk injdependantly now. She is almost 6. her balance and co-ordination still leave alot to be desired but hey-ho

congrats on the birth of ds2 - elective caesar after emergency here too - makes you no less a woman.

We had dd2 pushing her doll's pram around, walking holding our hands, cruising using the walls.

What got her walking independently? We had a walker from the physio - sort of like an old person's walker and she used that outside etc. After a week or so she decided she no longer needed it and now is wlaking and even running in her way everywhere!!

oops - meant to say - fab work mini pages

coppertop · 01/09/2005 23:07

Congratulations on the arrival of ds2. I've not had a c/s yet but "no pain and a morphine high" sounds pretty good to me!

Well done to ds1!

Wow Pages, great news all round. Congrats on birth of DS2. I also had elective section for DD but they couldn't give me an epidural due to the illness I have and the spinal only partially worked! It was like below decks on the Victory during the battle of Tragalgar but I made more noise!

A big welcome to another little Pages

Pages · 11/09/2005 13:57

Thanks, everyone. Hard to keep up on this site at the moment, my hands are so full - but just want to say the walking is getting better and better, he is happy to hold onto something and then let go himself - took 16 steps the other day. He wants to do it now, which is the main thing - and now no longer pg I am happy and able to run around with him!

Great news about the walking, and many congrats on the birth of ds2

Merlot · 11/09/2005 20:32

Congrats!! Lovely news about the birth of your ds2.

And wonderful news about ds1's walking. Your first post on this thread could have been written by me (well except for the birth announcement !) My ds2 has started to walk holding on to a finger or a skirt or whatever, but I feel its going to be a long haul before he gets the confidence to go it alone.

Merlot · 11/09/2005 20:34

Just thought I'd add that I have given up wearing gypsy skirts with elasticated waists, because every time ds2 grabs on to me or wants to pull up on me, the skirt takes a nosedive towards the floor!!

InternationalGirl · 12/09/2005 18:47

Congratulations on the arrival of DS2 and well done to little pages on getting the hang of walking. Sounds like he's decided now is the time!
