Hi everyone,

i'm new here but am on a couple of other forums. my little boy Luuk is % and has just started mainstream primary.

he is a very complex little boy who according to the docs wouldn't survie til birth. Boy am I so glad they were wrong.

The last 56 yerars have been a rollercoaster and much of it spent in hospital with little man due to various infections/surgeries etc.

he has no umbrella diagnosis and a list of things too long for here but heres a quick summary: he has mobility issues due to hypermobility/hypotonia and complex bilateral talipes(p/t wheelchair user), he has repaired heart defects, cleft plate, speech probs,is completely tube fed has lots of gut issues but is the happiest, smiley little boy i know. Cognitively he is very well developed for his age ( docs told me his brain should be mush!)His internal anatomy is all mixed up too!

Luukl was born in Holland where we lived at the time but we came back here as the Dutch docs weren't that enthusiastic about improving his life!!

Docs here have been fab and now I am proud to say he's off to school but am a bit nervous about handing him over to 'strangers' for 30 hours per week! I have kep thim safe and alive for 5 years and I hope they do their best to do the same Hmm

Well that's us.

Oh, suppose I should give my hubby a mention too !

I'm sure we'll get lots of advice and support here and hope that I can also share some of the wisdom i've acquired over the past 5 years to help others.

Welcome! Boy, you have been through a lot but he sounds lovely. I think every mum feels vulnerable when first sending their child off to school, to the care of others, but it's so much more worrying when they have SN, like my autistic boy. They will cope at school though, and after a week or so it will just become the norm. Good luck to your little man.

Hi Sharon,
Hope your little boy enjoys his first day of school. It's nerve-wracking, isn't it!
My DD has speech and language delay and probably some form of autism. She is just starting her 4th year of school (she's 6, but they start at 3 here) and is going to a special unit this year. I'm really pleased about the placement but sad to be sending her off in a taxi every morning!
Welcome to the SN board.

Welcome to the board.

Good luck with school, its such a big step for any parent, but for those of us with SN children the step does seem bigger.

Hi Sharon,

I'm fairly new to SN board too, am finding it a sanity-saver.

Your little boy Luuk (love that name) sounds as if he has a strong spirit, hope they treasure him at school.

My son is on autistic spectrum (no dx yet but becoming increasingly obvious)with sensory processing and motor co-ordination issues. He is 4 and just started school half-time today. It was so hard to hand him over but then again with the right support it is so good for him to have a chance to experience life without his careful mother hovering Grin I still feel wobbly though...

Looking forward to hearing more from you again - there are some brilliant people on this board - I am learning a lot.

Welcome to SN Smile

Hi,

I think I wrote it wrong. Luuk has just started school but on 19th of August Blush Sorry

He is enjoying it but been a couple of hiccups already. He 'fell' out of his wheelchair. Well was actually pushed by accident but luckily I was there and he had a huge bup on his head. They're not cleaning his bot properly after poos and yesterday he was hit in the face by a boy ( who I'm now told has problems and has hit everyone in the class - eh well what are they doing about getting him the right support?)

Apart from that he's loving it Smile
