Sick of wee

Why the hell can't ds use the bloody toilet like other 4.5yr olds? I'm sick of the useless incontinence nurse telling me to keep at it, don't use pull ups, he'll get there. Well she can spend her next visit cleaning my sofa.

I've been cleaning it for nearly 2hrs and I can't get all the wee out. I've been trying to soak it out and its just still coming and coming. It stinks, really stinks. Its on both sofa cushions and on the mattress underneath. Its in the foam of the cushions. Its horrendous.

I've been potty training for nearly 2 years and we've not progressed since week 2 of it. He's still wetting 50% of the time. I've done everything the incontinence nurse has told me to do and its still not working. He starts school in less than a week and is going to sit there in stinking trousers because he doesn't tell anyone he's wet himself. It shouldn't be like this. I shouldn't be crying over a bloody sofa for gods sake. Its the final straw tbh (he scribbled all over my newly decorated living room walls this morning).

rebl I feel for you. I too have wept over a pissy sofa. I'm very impressed you've persevered for so long. We tried and failed twice!

I think there's some spray you can get for pet smells? also someone on here recommended some good pants - try googling 'Upsey Daisy'.

And have a word with his teacher. He won't be the only one.

I often have a good wail. It's good to let it out!

His teacher knows, its not made it into his Action for inclusion plan or IEP though Sad. I suspect it will within the 1st term though.

I've been looking at upholstery and carpet cleaners tonight and they're so expensive (£200+) but I think we have no choice. I think I'm going to have to spend next months DLA on one. I can't continue like this.

Will look up "Upsey Daisy" pants.

You know what? DS1 is 6, almost 7 and is probably dry half the time. He wears pull ups. He can't/won't tell us when he's wet and I thikn it's demeaning for him to have it show and not pleasant for anyone if he's constantly messing up the furniture, getting us all frustrated etc etc. He is slowly, on average, getting dryer.

As for urine stink - bicarb. Sprinkle it on, rub it in and let it dry, then vacuum it off.

Our fabric sofas have put up with almost 7 years of bodily fluids and are now overdue for replacement because we know what's soaked into them, even though they're structurally OK. We've decided on leather just for ease of cleaning.

I empathise. I have different issues, but DD1 has to use a potty during the day because I can't keep going up and down the stairs with her (it's a big drama getting her down the stairs again), which means that DD2 also has to use the potty, because I can't let her go upstairs and not DD1. DD3 runs to the potty as soon as the girls wee, so I have to sprint through to empty it before she gets to it. No downstairs loo.

The last two days DD seems to have regressed. She sat on the potty and weed with her trousers up, then this morning, pulled down her trousers, crouched over the floor and weed, despite two clean empty potties being less than a foot away Sad

I know how you feel, luckily our house is almost wee proof (wipable sofa, laminate flooring), i spend most of the day mopping up puddles. Dd2 (4.5) is almost dry but uses the potty, if i dont get to the potty in time she will empty it herself (over the floor) and then jump in it. She still wears nappies when we go out, i'm taking her out today without a nappy (and potty to hand), she starts school tomorrow and i will be sending her in pants, i'm worried she will be wet by the time we get to school as she seems to pee every 10 minutes in the morning.

ourgle I was using pull ups til the incontinence nurse told me that I wasn't helping the situation for the same reasons as you.

I tried leaving bicarbonate of soda on it over night and it still stinks. I've called a professional cleaning company and they're coming this afternoon and will be charging me £45 to get this sorted. He's done it loads of times before but its never smelt like this and its never been of such a large quantity either. Its really bad, the smell is like cat urine, honestly its so strong.

DS is 5 and still in nappies. Id much rather deal with wee than pooh. Ds1 takes his nappy off when he has done the job I cant tell you the number of times Im scrubbing the carpet or changing the bed sheets.

Can you use a waterproof covering for the sofa for now?

rebl · 01/09/2010 13:26

staryeyed Poo isn't nice either Sad.

I'm going to Dunelm tomorrow (its a proper trip out, 40 mins each way so requires planning with dc) and getting mattress covers and covering the cushions with them and getting 2 throws as well. Have also picked up a urine sample bottle from the gp considering its so strong I just want to make sure there isn't an infection.
