Been for a hospital appointment at 9.30am and didn't get to leave until hours later. After not doing what we were there to do.
DS was meant to have an ECG and echo, both of which were refused completly backed up with loads of behaviour.
So behaviour took precedent yet again. Cardiologist wants an official dx of ADHD and ASD for my son, not dxd traits of those plus others.
He wants his behaviour helped and maybe him on rinitidine?(think thats what it was)and most of all at his next app he wants an ECG and echo!!

Devientenigma, poor you.

Did he mean ritalin? It is used to help children with ADHD to calm them.

Ranitidine is an antacid, used for reflux and stomach ulcers.

sorry you have had such a rotten day at the hospital.

phlebas · 31/08/2010 18:55

Thanks everyone.
Lougle I knew I was wrong with the med, he was on ranitidine for years when he was younger for his reflux.
The cardiologist is now playing his behaviour is impacting on his health card. Again the horrible word institutionalised came up!!

devientenigma, what do you feel? Do you think his behaviour is impacting on his health? I have to confess to bias as I am a nurse, but if the Cardiologist is that worked up about an ECG, I would think he really wants one.

Ritalin can be an absolutely revolutionary life-changing (positively) thing for a child with ADHD. Please don't believe the social control hype of the media. There is growing evidence that children with ADHD have an organic difference in their make up, which is why what is used as a stimulant for the blackmarket is amazingly calming for a person with ADHD.

could he have meant risperidone? it's an anti-psychiotic drug IIRC that can help reduce anxiety in kids with ASD and similar problems.

devientenigma · 02/09/2010 07:33

Hi lougle, I do think his behaviour does affect him as he is quite often cyanotic, really breathless and sleepy depending on how long he's been kicking off etc.
Even his anxieties cause him to be cyanotic and have palputations.
He is extremely tactile defensive hence why he doesn't like the tests and he has sever learning difficulties so doesn't realise the importance. So he just went into meltdown for the appointment resulting in him baracading himself and growling as you come close (lol).
I will ask about Ritalin and risperidone (thanks TC) when I speak to the GP. Thanks x
