I am having some difficulty getting extra support from social care for my ds, severely autistic, aged 9. We currently receive 2 nights respite per month, four hours support per fortnight from cross roads carer and four hours after / before school care per week as I work part time and can't get home in time to meet taxi every day. Is this a good level of respite / help and AIBU to ask for more help? We also have a dd with ASD, aged 5.

Hi devientenigma - love your name! The North Tyneside playscheme is really good.
I'm going to the coast this afternoon to spend quality time with dd...while carers take ds climbing. We are very lucky.

Riven - come to sunny Tyneside - the more the merrier. We could do with your campaigning skills - nappy provision here is shite! (Oh well, we can't have everything...)

Service provision seems to be very patchy all over.
We used to get 8 hours per month DPayments per child.
My three have autism and go to a Sn school.
When my DH was terminally I'll I had a battle to increase the Dp hours to 28 per month, still no respite then, when Dh died I still didn't get overnight respite until I needed an operation then they decided I could have 24 nights per child per year, the girls are twins and go together to a lovely family,, ds goes to a different family.
After struggling for ages having to get my three up and ready for school bus by 8 am I eventually got a morning carer who comes for an hour on school mornings, I have a meeting at 2pm to discuss cuts to this service.
What really annoys me is that I have absolutely no family support I can't get caters allowance or even widowed parent allowance cos I get in cap which is now under review along with DDs Dla now they are 16, life is one long battle, I am able to fight for my kids but I do get tired of it all, how do people cope who aren't able to battle for whatever reason?

8 hours per month. Got it because school recommended it (when they were still talking to me). They couldn't cope and are asking for 30 hours 1:1.

Biggest problem we have is no one will say how ds is going be affected as gets older that fecking GDD rag still hanging around like he will suddenly become more able.Though we have the cp label to

so in the meantime just because he might cache up some and pugs will fly it's zilch

But to be fair compared to lot ds is easy
