Hope this works out nicely, bear with me!.....
If you're the parent/carer of an ASD child with S/L delay, copy and paste these Q's with your answers. (Or if you think your answers would be relevant in general) Hopefully this will make useful reading for all of us, give some inspiration, some good ideas, might give us a laugh or just make us feel we're not alone. xx Hope it works!....

  1. What would (/should!) you say to (or scream at...) the next stranger that gawps at your LO's out of the ordinary behaviour / temper tantrum ?
  1. What would you tell one of your LO's peers / classmates / nurserymates (!) that wanted to know what was wrong with them?
  1. What advice could you give other children to help them?
  1. What one piece of advice would (/should!) you tell your LO's nursery / teacher to help them make the most of their time there?
  1. What one thing has your LO done lately to show YOU they have made progress and to just melt your heart?
  1. And the last one, just to compare, what percentage of your time is spent really really worrying about the future as opposed to being positive and happy with the present?

Would help if I gave my input first lol...

  1. What would (/should!) you say to (or scream at...) the next stranger that gawps at your LO's out of the ordinary behaviour / temper tantrum ?

Something to shame them,...
"Take your judgy pants and shove them! My DS is doing you no harm, he's got XY and Z - what's your excuse???"

  1. What would you tell one of your LO's peers / classmates / nurserymates (!) that wanted to know what was wrong with them?

"He wants to play with you and he wants to talk to you/answer you, but he finds it hard/doesn't know how to."

  1. What advice could you give other children to help them?

Be patient and not give up, keep helping him play with them.

  1. What one piece of advice would (/should!) you tell your LO's nursery / teacher to help them make the most of their time there?

(Naively....) Please care as much as I do about helping my DS get the absolute best out of nursery by trying to get on his level and into his world just all the time!

  1. What one thing has your LO done lately to show YOU they have made progress and to just melt your heart?

He was in the bathroom with daddy, I was drying DS2 in his room and DS1 called through "Mummy, come here" clear as day!! Even though there was no reason to call me through, I went back in to him with a big smile on my face. xxxx

  1. And the last one, just to compare, what percentage of your time is spent really really worrying about the future as opposed to being positive and happy with the present?
It depends..... overall, hopefully, 70/30. (some days not like that tho, more the opposite :( )

Looking forward to this one. Too late for me to be coherent, things to do still, but I'm intrigued...

I don't think i would say anything, i havn't got the time for the trype of people that judge my children so i would just keep walking.

  1. What would you tell one of your LO's peers / classmates / nurserymates (!) that wanted to know what was wrong with them?

Dd2 finds it hard to listen and talk, she has Autism but is not stupid.

  1. What advice could you give other children to help them?

Talk to dd2 slowlly, just because she doesn't always answer it doesn't mean she's not listning.

  1. What one piece of advice would (/should!) you tell your LO's nursery / teacher to help them make the most of their time there?

Concentrate on the things she is good at (maths, drawing, reading), don't judge her, just because she doesn't talk it doesnt mean she's not intellagent.

  1. What one thing has your LO done lately to show YOU they have made progress and to just melt your heart?

Dd2 has self taught herself to read. Oh and she can draw whiskers on her face (with a pen) without looking in miror. Grin

I try and stay possitive and not look to far into the future. I find it hard when i see older ASD children as i start to wonder if dd2 will be like them in the future.

Of course, staring at my son will cure his autism. Judging me just reflects badly on you.

  1. What would you tell one of your LO's peers / classmates / nurserymates (!) that wanted to know what was wrong with them?

He's a bit different to you. He can't always listen and play but he does like you and cannot always show it.

  1. What advice could you give other children to help them?

Speak slowly and clearly to him but do not expect a reply. Stand back if he looks cross.

  1. What one piece of advice would (/should!) you tell your LO's nursery / teacher to help them make the most of their time there?

Don't panic and he won't. Understand he doesn't see, think, taste, or hear like other kids.

  1. What one thing has your LO done lately to show YOU they have made progress and to just melt your heart?

He said 'I'm sorry Mummy, I'm really sorry'

  1. And the last one, just to compare, what percentage of your time is spent really really worrying about the future as opposed to being positive and happy with the present?

80/20.

Marne, you're quite right, it is defo not worth actually saying anything to ignorant members of the public!

Meant to add- but nice to fantasise about something downright nasty to come back with
