Has anyone else used with their dc am aware that they will use in the speech unit and another proffesional mentioned it ,ds is a communicator but due to oral dyspraxia and devlomental verb dyspraxia he really struggles with sounds only really making nouns and some constant sounds but from his throat not his mouth

Just want to make sure uptodate so can support ds

My Student SALT who is helping us this summer mentioned it when she watched the PROMPT videos that are in my thread from today. She showed me some - e.g . For 'ku' Thats too hard for ds1 but she did get him saying puh which us a new sound (nit sure whether she used cued articulation or not for that though. He was asking for piggy backs so it was a nit manic.

It looked to me as if it gave some visual/physical cues to articulation. Prompt looked similar in that way.

Hi, Yes we have been using cued articulation for a while for b / p / m and n. The signs show how the lips are meant to move (for B and P) and how the sound is meant to be directed down the nose (for m and n). My dd reponds to the fact that it is something visual and it helps her try the sounds (can only manage m though). Our SALT copied the signs out of a book for us and we intend to keep using the system. Its just another thing to try - I quite like it.

hi

thank you that would make sense ds mouth, lips tounges will just not move no matte rhow he trys as has pretty server oral dyspraxia on top of the verbal dyspraxia

so maybe seeing how they should move might help and ds is a visual learner to

We used it with DD#1 alongside the nuffield dyspraxia picture cards/sheets. It is as already said to help remind them how to move the mouth/lips to make the required sound. I still find myself using the hand signals to her even though we moved on from these quite a while back!!

hmm ok be intresting as ds really cant move his mouth/lips tounge properly as the oral is so severe he makes most his sounds from his throat

We have been following the program since ds was 2.6 and still no progress i thought was till speech therpaist got him to try say sounds and then you could hear there was no real sounds just nouns and throat sounds .Ohy well fingers crossed that the intensive therpahy in speech unit will work
