Ds wears afos orignally prescribed by nhs but due to waiting time s i went private to have them done but only after there own ortics consultant saw ds to se eif he felt they was needed and have had follow up appoinments with the clinic who are world reknown ever since .

But today ds new physio turned round said in her opion he should not be wearing them and that go back to piedro boots , even though ds started with insoles and then piedros way back

The private ortics clinic said that ds is still prsenting with the same problems and myself and him both agree ds walks better with than without. And way back he explained first one that ever did what he is trying to prevent and what the afos do .Compared to nhs who we was in and out in 10 minutes

But physio is admant wants us to see nhs orthtics for their opion on what ds should be wearing .Trouble is that now means an 12 week wait till he gtes seen

What do you do when NHs and private disagree .Im also having to be carefull becuase been ss involvement due to me disagreeing with proffesionals and use of resources .Though its no longer a issues liek it was

Wgat consultanats give are their opinions.

No one is right or wrong.

Normally you chose the one you have the most confidence in however unless your prepared to continue seeing the private Consulatnat you're going to have to rely on the NHS one for continuing care.

If the NHS Consualtnat's opinion differs from that of the private one then you can chose to take her advice or you can ask for a 2nd opinion from another NHS Consultant.

That 2nd NHS consultant will either agree with the private one and you can then continue with the 2nd NHS Consultant or will agree with the first NHS Consulatnt - in which case you have to ask yourself whether the private guy is right if 2 others dispute his opinion.

Having said all that other factors also come into play such as the costs of the different treatments prescrobed by private / NHS. Don;'t forget the NHS will be out to do this 'on the cheap'

Hope this helps.

ok ty ironic the nhs ortics were ones to prescribe them first , the priavte guy even called him up and had achat , he worked with him some time back

its just the nhs physios depending who we see have differnt opions , but to keep the peace have agreed to go see the nhs guy only reason went private last time was waiting times for afos to be made and trying tog et an appoinment when their was problems with things

we pay for the afos and for none of the follow ups or any adjusments that need doing and if problem they will see ds within a week or often next day

Complain to PALS. The physios are just time-wasting.

How long has your ds had the afos?

roundthebend4 · 27/08/2010 06:39

he has had them for coming up a year now , but has been seen every 3 months by the orthopeadic clinci that made them up ,

we had a review with nhs orthtics a curtsey one and he was pleased in how they help ds walk and was more than happy for me to keep seeing the private team as understood witgh his waiting lists he be lucky to see ds for 10 minutes every 6 months

but we now moved seen new physio and there bit arsey becuase i go private but have said the man i see is more than happy to liase with them .But they keep going on about they can work better with theres more closely

Thing is after this block over we wont see physio for about 6 months or so .

The first physio we saw here was happy with afos and dealing with private this one is not

i know some might say that private clinic its all about the money but there so well known my money to them is peanuts .Hell he even tried to get us bumped up the nhs list by calling himself to orginal clinic

I would go with the current plan tbh. If you can see an improvement and so could old physio I would say the new one is just being a PITA. You know best, trust me you do :)

Lisa trouble us I know I do but all the recent hassle had made me warey of arguing with nhs ltoffedional opions
