Pre School Booster

DD 4.2 (ASD) has been getting letters about pre-school boosters for months. I have been ignoring the letters just chucking them in the recycling Confused, however, DP has opened a couple and has insisted that DD gets the boosters. I am a bit scared about DD getting the MMR booster especially as she has been making exceptional progress over the last few months. I think there maybe a private blood test to determine if DD needs the second MMR. Has anybody been down this route? Thanks

My ds has had his pre school boosters and he has had no ill effects from it, in fact he has also come on leaps and bounds in the last few months and he had it at the in about feb.

Should have ds is also 4.2 and asd.

Why don't you take her for the diphtheria/tetanus/pertussis/polio booster and discuss the need for a second MMR with the GP?

I didn't know the consensus was to give another MMR. I'd rather not put DS through that. Can I get out of it?

Evie, yes there is a test to check whether already immune. You'll need to pay for it privately.

Milady, yes you can decline to have it, just as you can decline any vaccination. I would recommend telling your surgery, though - if you don't tell them you want to opt out you will get repeated reminders. Ime, if you tell them you are opting out then the reminders stop too.

They are still sending my DD those letters every month or so and she is 7. I just keep chucking them in the bin. You don't have to get the jabs at all - all they do is keep sending you the letters, but apart from that they do nothing.

My DH also said that DD should get the jabs - so I told him to do it. Funnily enough it never reaches the top of his priority list :)

We were worried about getting dd2's done. In the end (after the nurse telling me over and over that there is no link with ASD) we got it done. Dd2 had a reaction and we ended up in hospital the next day, the hospital did not want to addmit that it was a reaction to the booster. Dd2 hat a very high temp and went floppy, i panicked as i didn't want her to have it in the first place. She recovered within 24 hours and it did not effect her Autism (no regression). If i had another child i would not be going through with the MMR, but thats my choice. You could ask the GP for the single vaccines (you may have to pay for them).

Oh good, I haven't had any experience of refusing vaccines before and luckily I have two HVs coming to see me this week. We can have a nice chat Grin and I'll tell the surgery too. Thanks.

Thanks for all your replies. DD's appointment is booked for one months time so I still have a while to think things through. Had to smile at your post Indigo I said a similar thing to DP but it kind of backfired as it is him who made the appointment and intends to take her. I was very shocked as I did not thing it would make the top of his priority list either.
