Well the anxiety has caught up with me [sad]

the past few days, been getting funny chest feelings, this morning was a lot worse, missing heart beats. phoned NHS direct said I should see GP. GP took bloods and booked me in for ecg on monday Hmm said it's probably anxiety from the past 2 years, (Since ds born) {hypoxic birth ending in CP} and said will see me in a week for the results.
Went to hydro this aft, tried to forget about it, but on way home started getting worse, pulse speeding up, then stopping for a beat then going really slow, also short of breath, and a bit dizzy, so went to A+E finally did the ECG - normal, but I did see an abnormal beat, but was not captured.
saw the DR examined me, also came to the conclusion that It's all the extra adrenaline running around my body (from anxiety) which is making my heart do funny things Sad and left it upto the gp to soart out next week.
Luckily I have a stash of diazepam which I have taken and I now feel great ! Grin not that I'd advocate popping pills for anything and everything!

Poor you - anxiety attacks can be really scary Sad I also get them and can really empathise with how horrible they are.

Hope the GP can suggest something else to help too...

Poor sneezecake,if it is any consolation I actually felt better and not worse as time went on,so do hang in there.Two years is no time at all.You are still grieving,hugs to you x

There is a breathing technique that makes it physically impossible to have a panic attack whilst you are doing it. I was taught it by a counsellor, difficult to describe on here. If you ask your gp about it they may be able to tell you how?

When I used to get them I described them more as terror attacks, panic did not adequately describe how I was feeling!

The best therapy for this is cognitive behavioural therapy. It is available on the nhs, but in my area the waiting list was 2 years, although not so bad in other parts of the country. I couldn't afford to pay privately but you can buy books that tell you how to do it yourself. That is what I did. Will try and hunt out the books if I still have them and post some links.

There are lots of things you can do eg. eating porridge for breakfast made a drastic difference! I suggest doing some research for nautral method of treating panic attacks there is a lot of information out there.

If you have any questions at all fire away and I'll try my best to answer or point you in the right direction...

thanks at least my heart beats have come back to me now, think i'm going to take anotherone and go to bed been up since 5 with a snotty ds.
cant believe it lasted all day Sad
your right jardy, I feel better now compared to when ds was fitting non stop (60 times a day at it's peak ) but I hink that dread of them coming back is always hanging over my head like a dark cloud, which won't go away. and also he has to have an operation to take hs teath out which I'm really not looking forward to, if I stop and think about it too long I could cry Sad

red I might try cbt I heard it worked really well for my friend, the funny thing is, I have waited 18 months on the list for it, and got a letter through about 2 weeks ago, asing me to contact them for an appointment, and threw the letter away as I thoght I didn't need it anymore!

Contact them! or get hold of them through your gp or something. You could say your husband threw it in the bin by mistake or something. That's really great if you can get cbt. Smile

If I feel it coming on now I repeat to myself 'nothing to fear but fear itself'

oh yes, definitely stop and relax now. The effect of adrenalin on your body will mean you need the rest.

You do sound more upbeat now, have a nice evening.

Mind Over Mood by Greenberger and Padesky is a pretty straightforward book on CBT - it's not too overwhelming x

I feel loads better this morning and my heart has stopped doing funny things, for the time being anyway. and I slept like a log, ds only woke up once for a drink then was back to sleep and so was I!
I'm going to find that letter it may still be in the paper recycle bin, which has not been collected yet, so may just be a bit lucky.
I will look up that book Helen and try and sort myself out! Grin

Fantastic! It's amazing what a little bit of hope will do.

This will go away, I know it can seem like you're going to feel like this forever, but you really wont.

To really get on top of the adrenalin you need lots of exercise (not forgetting the endorphins too!) lots of fresh air, good food- have a look at the gi diet, not just about losing weight. Also manages the sugar highs and lows which directly affect adrenalin.

And of course, lots of rest and making time to relax. It sounds obvious, but remember to breathe!

So glad you are feeling better sneeze,some excellent advice here.No wonder you had a wobbly patch with all you have to cope with.I went in my local pound shop the other day and was surprised how many relaxing objects there were eg candles,massage stones etc all so cheap.You could build up a stock and have a super cheap spa afternoon!Or an expensive one depending how you are fixed!And buy yourself some flowers while you are in town as you are a star,hang on in there,you are doing wonderfully Smile

Hi, on behalf of sneezie, a quick update. She rang mental health services, said her letter got lost and has an appointment for 3 weeks time. I have offered to babysit so she and DH can go for a bike ride and build up some endorphins 3 times a week! I have ordered 'Mind over Mood' from Amazon. She has paul McKenna on i-pod and is doing deep relaxation daily. DH will give her a pampering candle lit, scented bath at the weekend and we have got prices for a massaging session locally! She also has vallium if needed short term and has not phoned me in panic yet so hopefully palpitations not so bad!

Thanks everyone for the well wishes, (beam is my mum!Grin she is fab!)
It's been ok most of the day, just starting to creep back now so I'm off to listen to my ipod and Mr McKenna! he's really good, all i remember at the end is him counting back from 3! It does feel like its getting better but will take its time.
I will definatly invest in some exercise, and reassess my diet, whch is not good.

Hi Sneeze, I hope you ar efeeling better & have agood & relaxing weekend. 5 yrs after y ds was born (prem, CP, asd/learning diff etc etc) I experienced anxiety problems.
The gp told me i had been running on adrenaline for 5 yrs & it all caught up with me.
I was forced (as I was a complete mess) to take time off from work, accept offers of help from friends and family and went on citalopram for a year.
I also saw a counsellor and the mental health nurse at mt gp practice. The support wa sfantastic & I must say I feel a million times better now.
Oh and I had hypnotherapy to learn relaxation techniques.

Please take time to rest, look after yourself, accept help & give yourself time.Take care x
