Dealing with AS and vomitphobia.

DD (probable AS) has always been utterly phobic about sick.Being sick, other people being sick, feeling sick etc etc.

for example when she was 5 someone was sick in her ballet class. She couldn't/wouldn't go ever again.

When she was 6 she was sick. End result was not eating for months (most things anyway) and refusing to go to school for years.

Since then she says about 30 times a day, every day, 'I feel sick'. every time she feels odd or anxious she feels sick.

Anyway.

On monday she was actually sick (bug picked up from my sister, then passed to her, then me) (I feel mostly better now so know she is too). She hasn't eaten since and can see her slipping down the major freaking out route.

So how do I deal with this? What do I do to stop her slipping as far as last time? Any tips?

Hi Eccentric, i have a phobia of being sick (i,m possibly on the spectrum), when i'm at my worst it stops me from going out, if i hear that there is a bug doing the rounds i stop eating and wash my hands so much they get sore.

I have had councellinG, CBT and hypnotherapy, none have really helped Sad, i am booked in for more CBT in october (fingers crossed it wil help).

You could try CBT ttherapy but i think it depends on the way her mind thinks, they will try and get her to see things differently (which is hard to do with a child who has AS).

I wish i could say 'she will grow out of it' but for me i had a time (when i was a teen) where i was ok (hardly thought about it) and then when i became a parent it became worse.

I take anti-sickness pills which i get from my GP. If i do become ill (feel sick) i always need someone with me to try and take my mind off of being sick (i still call for my mum when i'm ill and i'm 28). Try and get her to think of good times she has had when she has not been ill and try to get her to foccus on these.

I hope you manage to get her to eat something and i hope she feels better soon. Its a nasty phobia to have.
