To double buggy, walk or become a recluse...

DD1 was 3 past in January and uses Maclaren Major / pushchair as main mode of transport. She can walk a little but is very "floppy" still so crumples if we dont go her way or if shes had enough and then throws the biggest tantrums about being tired and too sore to walk. V embarrassing in shops and down town - get the bad mum look lots from passers by

Baby number 2 due in January and am at a loss as what to do with prams. DD1 too tall for a "normal" double buggy and dont think she would have strength or concentration to stand on one of the buggy boards I have seen.

No idea how I am goingto manage shopping trips etc on my own during the week pushing a pram and a major buggy, any ideas?

Thanks

Have you seen the Patron Tandem Buggy think its probably quite expensive but would last for a number of years as you can fix a baby carrier on the back, then a toddler seat when the wee ones a bit bigger

I think mountain buggy do a sn double. Or would a sling be any use for a while?

What about a Phil & Teds? Dd4 has a heart condition so can't walk too far but is quite tall for her age. I bought mine last October when she was 3 1/2 and dd5 was 9 months. I chose it because ut seemed to have the highest "weigh-limit" of all the pushchairs. She does look a bit leggy in it now but is still fine weight-wise.

TotalChaos · 17/08/2010 12:44

could you manage with baby in a sling whilst the baby is light enough.

silverfrog · 17/08/2010 12:46

second a P&T.

bought ours when dd2 was 4 months ish, so dd1 would have been 2.10.

stopped using it earlier this year, when dd1 was about 5.9. she was a little tall for it, but still comfortable enough. in fact, we still debate whether to use it on long days out, depending on how dd1 is behaving at the time.

ours is the Sport, and is fab - cuold get dd1 (over 5), dd2 (over 3) and most of a week's shopping into it, oh, those were the days! have to carry all the bags now Shock Grin

Look at page

or look at this page

Its like a buggy board but you can sit down.

bigcar · 17/08/2010 13:27

wooly, you just reminded me of this one, although it's probably not as sturdy.

Hi, I have been working my way through this problem for 19 months now - Phil and Ted original Kiwi Explorer and the Mountain Buggy Terrains have been the best choices. Now I have a Maclaren Major and a buggypod, which is brilliant, but the pod is no good under 6 months.

I used a sling with a back carry from very early with DC3 - it's perfectly safe to carry a NB on your back in a wrap or MT, but a bit oif a steep learning curve!

Lougle · 17/08/2010 17:32

We used a phil and teds until dD1 was too big fo it

waz77 · 18/08/2010 13:07

Thanks for all the advice - gives me lots to think about.

Not sure about slings as cold Scottish winters are not great to be out in (esp if a repeat of last years) and back a bit knackered from lumping around a SN toddler for past 3 years. Off to search ebay to see whats available.

Thanks

sorry i think they have stopped making them now.

but this was on ebay

cgi.ebay.co.uk/Mountain-Buggy-Double-Special-Needs-Pushchair-/170526501821?pt=UK_Baby_BabyTravel_Pushchairs_GL

and you could get a carry cot if needed,

Hi..just read your post and wanted to recommend the phil and teds double buggy. I have a 4year old, a 2year old and a 6 month old and had the same dilema when my 2 year old was born. Now with the phil and teds they can all 'share' I can put the 2year old and baby in or 4year old and baby or 4year old and 2year old. All my kids are quite tall and my 4year old still fits in it comfortably if she wants a ride. Highly recommended...and i bought mine half the price via ebay second hand! It also converts to a single buggy when you no longer need a double. Happy hunting Smile

Was also going to recommend the P&T buggy - not that I've got one, but should have bought one long ago. Instead I have enviously been admiring my friend's from afar!.... They are really durable as well, last years.
