ASD Chewing fingers

My 5 year old DS who is going through a diagnosis of autism constantly chews his fingers to the extent where the skin is starting to become damaged.

Is there anything I can do to stop him chewing them? He has used chewy tubes in the past but has little interest in them now. He is highly sensory and licks most things that he can get his tongue on

My ds doesn't chew his fingers but he chews/sucks/eats all sorts of everything else. Chewelry (sp?) helps, also celery, carrots, etc, even bits of rope or fabric.

I hope this helps, and maybe someone will come on tomorrow who has more expertise!

My ds2 (hfa/adhd) also chews his fingers until the skin is red raw and damaged. It is impossible to stop him the only thing we do is offer him an alternative to his fingers and that is chewing gum - it's the only thing to stop him.
